The Chinese are *so* fucked

And in this scene, class, my glorious armada of Mercenary Privateers lays siege to the decadent Chinese Empire. The best part being, of course, that Privateers have hidden nationality, so I can get my ships into just the position I want before I declare war and the Chinese can't do a damn thing because their military is so damn pathetic :)

Several turns later ...

I have crushed the puny Chinese and turned my attention to Japan. My fleet of mercenaries and bombers quickly captures Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo, and moves in to lay siege to Edo. Of course, the fact that I possess ten times as many heavy battleships than everyone else put together helps somewhat

Soon I will march on the pitiful Purple kingdom whoser name I forgot, then "forcibly annex" the satellite nation of the Zulus, after which I shall be GOD EMPEROR OF THE KNOWN UNIVERSE! BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

(If you have absolutely no clue what I'm babbling about, lookie here).

Bah. That can't compare to my Dutch Empire in Victoria. Hail Willem III, King of the United Netherlands, King of Siam, Malacca and Sumatra, Emperor of Japan and Korea, Lord of Trieste, Alaska, and the Dutch Carribean!

I hear CivIII nerfed the war aspect of the game to focus more on the boring, peaceful stuff.

A space mod for Civ3, cool. I do happen to like Civ3, though I'll admit it's definatly missing something that old game had. It really does need more technologies per era, I go from frigates to destroyers way too quickly, never even get a chance to use 'em!

Rome? Ha, none can surpass the comercial, scientific greeks, you may have Legions, but they can do little when I can already field cavalry and riflemen!

Bah! The Romans had cavalry; the reason the Greeks lost to Rome is because they had nothing but heavy infantry. :P

Tremble before the might of Roman Armor and Marines, Pencil Necked Greek! (Yes, I stole that from someone, but who?)

Fear my Danish Legions 200000 men strong, conquering Europe.
Or just ignore the hell out of me, since I don't play CIV :P

Sure Roman Cavalry was nice, but when you start exchanging swords and pilums for rifles and revolvers, things get interesting

In my games the Greeks usually don't last to gunpowder.

Even when they do, they fall before before the mighty combined arms of the Roman Military!

Anyway, this game was great, because I started out as the Greeks (strangely enough :) ) and was immedietly attacked by every single country. Fortunately I had the foresight to build up my military beforehand, so my frigates easily repulsed the initial assault.

Then I took the offensive, and my assault frigates captured the English and American cities. After that it was just expanding outward and building my military up. At one point the Egyptians made a raid on my border, and I retaliated by bombing the hell out of their planets and annexing them in the name of " national security" I fought at least four wars but started none of them, and I always ended larger than when I had begun :P

The mod is actually pretty neat ... it's not animated, but I can honestly say I didn't miss it one bit. Most obvious problems is that it's not finished, the fourth age tech tree is empty and the civilizations are pretty much the same as civ standard. The other thing is that once you get to the heavy ships like the Battleship and Titan there's pretty much no reason to build anything else - the Titan has something like 40 attack / 40 defense and 11 hit points. If your opponent gets them before you, you're pretty much screwed - all you can do is sell yourself as dearly as you can.

(The Japanese actually took out one of my Titans when I sent it to attack Kyoto unescorted, but I had something like 40 of them so it didn't make much differece :) )

That's why you bomb the cities first. Or slam them with unholy amounts of indirect fire. Once again the combined arms of Rome crush your puny rebellion!

ROMA VICTOR!!! (Look I just like saying it okay?)

I dp gppd combined arms and transport reguarldess of era.

high defense units in the same area as my artillery, then a mix of assult and shoot in the capture forces, usually along with enough forces to quickly build grmrts;d////
