Every time I try to use an avi file, nothing happens. Any ideas?

Probably they were encoded with the Divx codec. Go download the Divx codec here.

I wouldn't use realplayer to play AVIs. Use something like Windows Media Player instead.

You'll want to grab the xVid codev and ffdshow also.

Better yet, get Media Player Classic. It does pretty much everything that more recent WMPs do, without the bloat (it uses the 6.x interface, no badly-implemented skins here...)

Urk, why would you do that to yourself? WMP or winamp5 are the ways to go.

I find Media Player Classic to be the best for video, given that it plays stuff .rm and .mov as well.

Get windows media player 9. I've been using it on my anemic computer and it works great. Surprisingly it's even faster than windows media player 7.0.

Its user interface, however, leaves much to be desired.

Not really, the only interface I pay attention to is the "play" button :D

Obviously this is part of Ashcroft's great plan to prevent people from watching porn on their computers. :P

What I mean by that is that the default skin has all of jack and shit to do with the default Windows interface. Nothing is where you expect it to be, which from a UI perspective is a very bad thing.
