Samba mounts

Post by Spyder »

Hi guys, I've just finished setting up my linux box which I currently have networked to my WindowsXP box using Samba. I set up the mount points using the linneighborhood front end and they work fine. One thing I've noticed though is that they seem to dissapear on rebooting, is there anyway to make the mounts persistant?

I think there's some kind of mount conf file in the etc directory that mounts all the partition/thingies on startup.

/etc/samba/smb.conf I believe. Install swat and use the web based interface by pointing browser at localhost:901 if you are lazy. I don't know how linneighborhood works. What distro do you use?

:( ! I could never get samba mounts to show up on XP using RH9! I didn't even know there was a frontend! RH9 messes with the regular conf files I'm not even sure if the default ones work (setting up DNS was a nightmare). Help'd be appreciated :)

Get Fedora and try using yum to get SWAT, and use that to edit your config file... never used Fedora, ask phong. For manual editing, please post your current /etc/samba/smb.conf and any relavant IP addresses.

Mandrake 9.2

Had a look at the smb.conf file...might have a play with it later. For now using the Mandrake Samba mount tool thingie mount it seems to have worked.
