Here for the main project page.

OSX install:

1) Download this, unstuff it, and move the contents to a new folder.
2) Download this, unstuff it, and put the contents in the folder you made in step 1.

Linux install:

Get this RPM and these Infinity files. Unpack the tarball into the dir you put the main files in.

Windows install (oh boy):

You'll need both the Marathon files and the Infinity files. Follow the windows directions given here

Download it and try it out. If people are up to it, lets organize an SD.net slaughterfest!

How friendly towards 56k is this game?

The honest answer is I don't know. Since the game itself is sort of old, it's not that processor-intensive, but FPSes are still bandwith pigs. It's a small app (17 meg all files), though, so try it out if you can!

OK, after my calc exam I can have a server up for most of today (Friday May 7th). Assuming you managed a successful install (since you all post here that is hopefully the case!):

1) From the main game screen, click "Join Network Game"
2) Connect to address 128.120.180.136
3) For some reason you don't auto-respawn :P Press the action key (default is tab) after you die.

I'll start the server up at approx 10:20 PST, and start games every 5 mins till about 12, then I'll post on this thread again.

The original version was, and the plot was incredible (beats Halo or Half-Life any time). And the inability to save every 5 seconds adds to the suspense.

Seriously, download it even if only for the single-player mode.

I just configured it for mouse control and the WASD scheme I'm used to.

Do you know if the original Marathon content is available anywhere, was it also released for free?

Well, I've been playing a lot of 1v1s, but that's nowhere near fraggy enough!
ICQ/AIM me if you've been waiting a while but I haven't started a game yet.

Guess you'll have to work until after work hours, then. I think most people finish at about 6 PM local time.

I'm definately planning on doing it for that. :P

I've never owned a Mac, so playing Marathon is something of a wet dream for me.

Back in the days of Doom and Duke Nukem, Bungie made a 1st person shooter for the Mac. The difference was that the levels were objective based, you had to aim up or down at a critter, and your weapons had magazines that were changed only when empty. and you had a story to read on each terminal where some crazy AI gave you missions or told you what was happening.

First Marathon was about some big-ass space mining colony (an asteroid with engines, basically) that was invaded by hordes of some insect-like aliens (not monster bugs, but alien-people with weapons and stuff). I don't really know what Marathon 2 was about (even if I nearly finished it) and I didn't play a lot of Infinity. Then HALO is supposedly a sequel/prequel.

The Windows "Infinity files" link returns a 404.

By the way ... resurrection.bungie.org

For Unreal Tournament. The multi-player is a lot of fun.
