STGODs Past: What were you planning?

by Thirdfain
Well, I don't know about the rest of the SDnet STGOD community, but more than once, I've planned heavily for one course of action, only to have it completely fall apart and have the STGOD run away from me.
For example, in STGOD2, I initially wanted to take the Grand Alliance into combat against the Quadruple Entente, destroying the Old Guard and cementing the power of the Three Suns Commonwealth as the dominant power in Earth space, and putting the Grand Alliance as the new galactic government. Of course, with the mass desertion of the other members, that plan fell through. Now, beset by Beowulf and Stormbringer's powers, I was planning on defeat- I even had an OOB written up for the Maquis resistance, as I tried to get my fleet into such a position that I could evacuate some warships and maintain a resistance, hopefuly with a government in exile in the Entente, while joining forces with the Corsairs and working towards striking back at the Cornerians and liberating the Commonwealth proper.
Of course, with the unexpected intervention of the Entente on my side, this never needed to happen.
What have the rest of you had lined up, only to have slip from your fingers, or found yourself abandoning as sudden, unexpected changes in the political scene made your plans obsolete?

In ASVS-STGOD I was basically planning to perform a nasty Hammerdrop on the Atlantean navy with my newly-acquired Planetoids.
In ASVS-STGOD2 I was planning an epic saga of regaining the Nether Scrolls so the Arcanus Republic would grow mighty enough to defeat Sauron.
In SD-STGOD-2 I was planning to reestablish myself in the Magellenic clouds and return to power, eventually battling the Kzinti in a nasty war.

To reverse engineer Aly's magic, use the knowledge-like nature of magic to create a few wizards of my own, and with his greatest powers countered launch a devistating attack on his homewworld.
But that didin't quite work out.

Well, I wasn't really planning much of anything after the Evil Me got himself killed
In ASVS-STGOD2 I was planning an epic saga of regaining the Nether Scrolls so the Arcanus Republic would grow mighty enough to defeat Sauron.
I didn't do much in this one...
In SD-STGOD-2 I was planning to reestablish myself in the Magellenic clouds and return to power, eventually battling the Kzinti in a nasty war.
With the Kzinti I was planning to be able to win such a war with the help of my friends, but also I was considering aiming for a reconciliation with the pirates.
The plan was to issue you a bounty for every merchant vessel of Beowulf and Stormbringers that got hijacked or destroyed.
With the Triad, I was going to capture Johann Ragle and do generic bad-guy stuff, then when my recruitment drive in the SKS came to a head, I was going to launch a forlorn hope attack on their training bases, solely to capture or kill their experienced senshi. Obviously it would fail and result in the destruction of most of my forces, but I could rebuild quicker than them. Evil Taoists... wooo, scary.

ASVS STGOD
This is kind of interesting, no one ever asked this before. My plans for the UTR were to finish my conquest of the Vong, therefore cementing the UTR position as one of the primary powers. I was then going to slowly increase diplomatic and trade relations with the Sixth Imperium, until the UTR deicded to vote for annexation by the SI. At that point I would then replace the ships of the UTR navy with SI Vengenance class DNs and other FTL capable parasite ships. Unfortunately all this fell through when I moved to clifton and no longer had internet access since the comp I had been using was the family comp.
SD STGOD 2
I was just going to take this one easy. Make sure the UTR was safe and well off, destroy my enemys and work on increaseing good relations with my friends and allies.

Hrm. So, were you going to suspend Ragle over a pit of sharks with laser beams?
I was planning on countering the Triads with the Zodiac and working to cement the Entente's hegemony by hook or by crook. At that point we could influence everyone else to make them in our image

That would have been a tricky one. On the one hand, an avenue to power and wealth. On the other, reconciling what, in the Alliance, was an insult. Most likely it'd come down to an assassination of whoever had been in charge of the push to invade the BA, or possibly a public duel, banking on Kzinti honor.

You aren't by any chance forgetting someone?
In SD.net STGOD mk 1, I intended to lead the Ordino alliance to victory over the vile and evil forces of the NBA
In SD.net Mk 2, I initially planned on joining with thirdfain and putting a stop to the old powers who thought they ran the universe (I would have loved to see the Entente smash it's fleets on my uber defense grid) But then I deciced that it would be more fun to be the bad guy and pulled a 180, attacking thirdfain from out of nowhere.

by consequences
In Honorverse STGOD,I planned to build up Manticore's strength, maximise the use of their tech advantage, stomp on Mesa ruthlessly, and prepare for the inevitable backstab, that likely would have come from the Solarian League. Then it died.
In every other STGOD, I had planned to join at some point.

Yes, that tends to happen a lot in STGODs. People have their own ideas on what to do :p
Of course, with the unexpected intervention of the Entente on my side, this never needed to happen.
Preserving you as a nation was deemed favorable to the balance of power as it existed; in other words, it favored the Entente's continuing hegemony.

Right. I ended up agreeing to assist the UTR in their conquests, I would havve ended up an Entent tributary state, bringing their influence to the Galactic Northeast.

To paraphrase someone on another board, when the Entente says "jump," you don't reply "how high." You reply "when can we come down"
But we treat our pe^H^Hallies well. Yes, that's right...

SD.net STGOD 1:
Genocide. Basically I was aiming to just plain slaughter everyone that I was facing. It would have been pretty darn bloody but at that point I could win the attrition game comfortably enough.
SD.net STGOD2:
At some point stand aside and let the PRC get their asses handed to them. I wasn't terribly keen on going down fighting after Beowulf launched his forlorn hope mission. Beyond that I really didn't have a plan.

Well, there were only three sure things in that STGOD: Death, taxes, and Kzinti honor
Phongn wrote:I was planning on countering the Triads with the Zodiac and working to cement the Entente's hegemony by hook or by crook.
This was already going on at the time it ended. Though I have to say that the Triad head wasn't going to just bounce off the Zodiac. Not when he was the second most powerful character in the game (after Saturn) and held important hostages. Sailor Jupiter comes to mind

It'd already been done with the Kzinti in the pregame history, it was in progress with Thirdfain, and it was going to happen to the PRC after we smashed them. I'd say we were well on our way with that one.

Ohh, no, I wasn't going to take down the Triad Head. The Zodiac aren't that powerful. And yes, I figured that you still had poor Ms. Kino as a hostage :p
I, personally, was planning to, uh, guide Andrews the elder towards certain actions, and then kill him if it didn't work. Or at least try to kill him; Nitram might have him escape. As for the younger Andrews, well,

Yep. Then we'd probably bicker with each other as we tried to shape each other into our favored image ... never overtly, of course.

Ah yes. That was amusing; the daughter of the Alliance's most influential conman is.. The heir to the SKS' throne. Which was very much amusing as Andrew's himself was originally one of the Lost...

I was wondering how much one of the most powerful original Senshi would be worth to the SKS, but I never got to find out.

Well since everyone else is still going on about what they were going to do I can add some more to my eventual plans. I was planning on conquering and occupying the Klingon and Gorn to enlarge the UTR, I most likely would have had a military occupation for awhile, then followed by some puppet governments, similar to the FSA and IWF. I was also planning on building up the size of the FSA and IWF militaries, and until the attack on the TSC I was setting myself up to invvade them.
But more interesting is that eventually I was going to share what the "Advisor" is up too, and who he is. Though most of the older STGODers have figured it out.
Maybe we should try restarting it in a month or so, which is when I'll be done with this quarter, by then most people should have more free time I'd think.

Yes, which is why I was rather wary of him.

Well, she wasn't heir to the throne at the time the game was going on. Just when she decided to do The Test(R) on a lark she'd instantly become the one
on the throne.

Would have been interesting to see what your offer was.

Don't worry his old "organization" has completely abandoned him. They got tired of him disapearing to follow a personal vendetta in some backwater. So he decided to create his own powerbase. His character has been through some interesting changes and has learned a little something called subtlty that he never new before. I didn't mean to copy but looking back at old STGODs he somewhat reminds me of Liet, though with different goals.
