Help!

I don't know how, but the 'File Allocation Table' for my 2nd partition has gone bonkers, shutting me out of that partition in Windows.
Using 'Knoppix' partition is viewable, but still unfixable.
Help would be appreciated.

I'm not an expert, though i think the partition is screwed. You could try the following (don't blame me if it doesn't work), although it's kinda extreme:
1. Try to get any data possible off your second partition. Will Knoppix allow you to copy or backup data off it to another hard drive or partition, CD-R or DVD-R, Zip drive, or a few thousand floppies?
2. Use FDISK or other partitioning software to delete the offending partition and create a brand-new one. Format the new drive(s). MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DELETE THE PRIMARY PARTITION OF YOUR MAIN HARD DISK! - that's where Windows is.
If there is a less extreme solution, someone else might know it, but I don't.
Hope that helps.

I will try and burn most of the stuff into a CD-R, but to be blunt, some of the files there are bigger then CD's, game movies running into 800MB.
Thanks for the advice, Thats my last bet.
Don't worry, i'm not a fool, I won't ruin C:
Actully, I will... but only when my Linux is perfectly set up.
EDIT: after thinking about it, would making a new partition, and using knoppix manually moving all the files to the new one, then deleating the broken partition work?

Only if you have any un-partitioned space on your hard drive, or an extra hard drive. If not, you have to get rid of one to put in another. And you might as well get rid of the broken partition.
As for the 800 MB files... i can only offer two suggestions: 1. Buy a DVD-R drive, they can handle 3-4 gigabytes 2. Some backup utilities may allow you to split a file up onto 2 disks or cds (at least, i know MS Backup will do so for floppies, not sure about cds).

Vertigo, looks okey, the moment I get back from hospital (for tests), i'll try it out.
Admiral, I have another 40GB who WERE linux, thats enough
On the DVD-RW, yes, when prices go below the price of 2 games, everything here costs too much.
EDIT: vertigo, site gives error when downloading the 'FAT' version of the program.
EDIT Mk2: Ah nm, problem in opera.
Thanks for the help.

I won't! Because the fucking program wants me to buy it so it can recover the files!
