Possible Upgrade Question

I'm looking into possibly updating my computer but I would like to know if there are any real world differences that would be noticable????

AMD Athlon XP 2600 @333FSB
1Gig DDR 400

to

AMD Athlon XP 3200 @400FSB
1Gig DDR 400

I know there's not alot of difference, but I made quite a purchase when I got the two RAM chips and the MOBO (A7N8X-E Deluxe) and would hate to dump all that RAM.

the frontsidebus speed will give you a considerable boost in your performance over the 333mhz, as well the 3200 is likely to be a bit more powerful over your present chipset. probably 2.8GhZ or so. possibly higher, depending on what the box says.

Why do you have 333 mhz equipment on a 400mhz motherboard . . ?

Sure, it'll give you a nice 20%-35% boost on most applications from the increased clock speed, cache size and FSB/Memory clock. It's certainly the cheapest upgrade option for the near future.

Ah, okay. But why did you have 400mhz memory in a 333 mhz motherboard to begin with?

well... it was kinda future proof at the time. When I purchased the original processor and mobo, there was a big sale on RAM and so I sprung for the 1 gig option. The mobo, after an upgrade to the bios, was able to run the processor at 333 and the ram at 400mhz. At least it was my understanding. Besides... it was the sale that led me to buy it.

It might be able to use 400mhz memory, but it would only run at 333mhz. I guess you lucked uot this time, but your memory can only go as fast as the core speed.
