Getting around the auto-log off

This is getting annoying now. Is there any way to avoid getting logged off the board when (for eg.) IE crashes and has to be closed, or when i need to reconnect to the 'net (I'm on dial up here)?
The main reason why this is annoying is that when i log back on everything is now marked as read.

Have you tried using a different browser so that you don't crash as often? I use mozilla and have yet to crash.

It's the PC and not IE as i visit the same sites as i do when using the uni computers and they use IE but don't crash.

No, you can't do that, even in Mozilla. The board automatically logs you off for a reason, and it's called security.
Sorry.

You could try and see if other web browsers don't crash. There's Mozilla, Moz Firefox, K-Meleon, and Opera for starters...

Interesting. SD.Net has never logged me off after a Safari crash ...

I don't think he's talking about actually being logged off the forums. What he probably refers to is the fact that, every time the browser is closed, the browser will automatically log in the next time it's started ... which makes you lose all the "new" status indicators.
It even happens with a several-hour timeout, if you leave the browser running.

Consider yourself lucky. AOHell removes the Unread markers every time I change pages, like when I go from the index to one of the forums. It pisses me off, but that's AOHell for you. *Wants my school Internet connection back.*

No i do mean that if i close all IE windows (by crash or otherwise) i'm logged out from SD.Net so i have to log in again, thereofr everythin is marked read.

That is what I am talking about.
The reason that everything gets reset is because you have to log in again. It also happens with timeouts.
Have you tried setting the "Keep me logged in permanently" option? (Note: that can be dangerous if your computer's not password-protected...)

Which is why i don't use auto-login. This computer is also used by my bro and since the new guidelines about not letting people read private forums (such as for eg. the Writers Guild) i never use auto-login anymore.

Well, looks like the only solution is to make your computer stop crashing so frequently. When was the last time you reinstalled Windows?
