Crusader works....almost

I just noticed that DosBox 6.1 was released. I've tried running Crusader:No Remorse and No Regret on it, and I've gotten partial functionality so far. I keep having lock-ups, though, and the process of increasing the CPU cycles to get the game running smoothly screws up the sound. Has anyone else tried this and had better luck? I've reeeeeally missed the Silencer.

You mean I didn't get Crusader for nothing!

RUSHES TO GET DOSBOX.

How do you increase CPU cyckes?

Found out- (the .conf file, right?) How do I figure out how many cycles my CPU can handle?

I don't know. I'm still learning the kinks on this, too. However, I'm running a 1.7 GHz machine, and I was able to kick it up to 10000 with no apparent problems. Pressing CRTL-F12 ups the cycles, and CRTL-F8 lowers.

Yeah, I've got the same problems as you. It starts to run better, but the sound cuts out.

It must be because this is only an x86 emulator at this point.

Dosbox sucks. DosEMU is far superior (as in, it's very fast (can be made slower), since it doesn't bother to emulate the CPU, and is meant to actually run a version of DOS (sort of like VMWare, but DOS specific)).

Too bad it's Linux-only   .

Too bad sound doesn't work for 688 (sub sim), since that uses adlib or covox for sound instead of sb (what the hell is covox?).

Does this work with 2000?

*..goes to look up...*

Wouldn't mind running both Crusader games again.

I don't see why it wouldn't.

Hmm...I tried looking through their forums, and they have several possible fixes. Tried a couple and crashed the game faster.... :?

When you find a fix that works, be sure to inform me. :)

One of the reasons I switched to NT4 was to get away from DOS :P

I have DOS too! See!

Btw, has anyone here desperate for DOS tried dual booting freedos?

I believe bochs is available for Windows- have not checked. If so, you can run DOS inside it at dosbox-like speeds (AKA slow, but most people have the horsepower), but with superior compatibility, since you can run MS-DOS in it (Actually, dosemu can too, but I don't have MS-DOS 6, except on an IBM PS/1 in use. Hmm... it might be a good idea to copy the contents of that hard drive before the last copy of MSDOS 6.2 that I can obtain goes up in flames- original disks are gone, and I have formatted two other drives with DOS on them. Then again, it's selling for CENTS on Ebay.
