a friend of mine bought a new printer. during the installation you´re told to turn off all anti virus programms in order to avoid damage to machine.
(btw, how the hell can a printer take damage from anti virus proggies?)
my friend, being an idiot, doens´t know which anti virus programs he has on his computer.
is there a way to find out what he´s got installed?

It's the rare program that actually breaks with an antivirus active. Some of the past nVidia Detonators and Office '97 come to mind, which would have corrupted files if Norton Antivirus was active in the background during installation (not sure how that happens; maybe something to do with unpacking files). I don't think I've seen a modern program which actually has this problem. If you actually need to do this, however, just right-click on the antivirus icon in the tray (there's always one) and disable it.
