The kid's smart without question, but I think that paper is making a MCSE out to be more than it is. While lots of IT people want to get one, those who only possess a MCSE usually don't know what the fuck they're doing. It's not exactly a prestigious qualification, more like a standard requirement.

What the industry calls "Paper MCSE" - They have no experience and have nothing but book knowledge.
At his age he's gonna have to wait a loooooong time to put any of it to use. I just wonder if he's gonna be one of those obnoxious condencending ones with knowledge to Microsoft's stuff. Someone will have fun slapping him down if he does...

Fair play to him, i failed my MCP's. Kinda galling to see an 8yo get qualifications i worked on for a year to get and failed.

I hope not; the last thing the industry needs is another "Duh, right-click here" MSCE. But this kid's smart, and he has a penchant for learning, so I think it's a safe bet that he'll eventually discover *nix, which is more challenging than Windows on the learning curve.

*nix would be more usefull for him to learn.
One company I did helpdesk for had some 24 year old who was the *admin* for all their unix stuff. Made a pretty penny too.
Lord Pounder: I can understand where you come from; we have other things to deal with like *life*, he can study Microsoft stuff all day with nothing to worry about.

As an MCSE myself, I have to admit that the cert carries a lot of undeserved hype with it. I've known too many paper MCSEs to take it seriously any more.
I wouldn't say that in a job interview though (even though I have enough experience that it wouldn't matter if I did).

Well, main reason why MCSE has so much hype is because Windows is one of the most common O/S's in use to date. Because of that, so many people think it's a be-all-end-all...
