I've just been reading the book Firewarrior, and I'm wondering if it is based on a realtively recent game. If so, what platform? And is it any good?

Yes it is based on the game
I wouldn't know if it's good or not because the fucking thing wouldn't run on my PC and the tech support guys whole help was: "uuuhhh... install the patch!"

If you really like 40k it might be worth playing through.
But being brutally honest, its a poor, poor clone of halo, that I would only play to see the models and cutscenes, and perhaps the concept art.

I've never played the Fire Warrior game, but it got very bad reviews.

But they did manage to get a 92% and a couple of others....
the Great Conspirator at work, the person you least suspect is a 40ker subversive!

LoL I'd say 'its a 40k game, of course its a pile of shit', but last time someone linked me to
Dawn of War and now I'm a believer.
But Fire Warrior is still shit. I think 'HALO clone' is a bit harsh, but still

Dawn of war is a 40k RTS being developed by Relic, the same guys who made the Homeworld series and Incredible Creatures.

If you want a cheap, chopshop shooter that's actually FUN, go pick up Chaser. It's not very spectacular graphically, but it's loaded with action and some fucking HUGE (and pretty creative) levels. The story is extremely weak, but serves solely as an excuse to get you from one place to another... and everything FEELS very epic.
Check it out. Should be about twenty bucks by now.

RTS = Real Time Strategy, games like Command and Conquer, Starcraft, Warcraft, etc.
Basically you control armies (including production, resource gathering and stuff) and try to complete specific objectives (normally kill the enemy)
Real time part refers to the fact that they aren't turn based but run in real time.
Homeworld was (AFAIK) the first true 3D space RTS and is generally held in high regard.
Impossible Creatures was an RTS that had a good idea (play God and combine different animals into powerful mutants to fight with) but didn't make the most of it according to the reviews i've read..
Neither have anything to do with 40K
