Seen it. It's impressive because he didn't cheat. (No, using glitches and exploits are not cheating! :P )

I sorta got annoyed with Half-Life once you got to the surface and had to fight your way along that narrow ledge on the mountain. Thought it kinda ruined the mood.

The movie isn't real. Watch the guys ammo count. Its not consistent. He cheated.

Yeah, it really ratcheted up the tension for me, especially the part where you finally get to the pipe that brings you out... and a headcrab suddenly jumps on you. First time through, I backpedaled right off the cliff. :) Not as jump-out-of-the-seat shocking as some of the stuff I experienced back with classic DOOM, but still very good.

I don't think he cheated. The ammo count only changes at load zones, which he edited out.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Why would the ammo count change, though?

Maybe it wasn't recorded in one sitting, but instead it's pieced together from multiple trials. He probably stopped to do a save at each load point, just in case.
Anyways, the ammo only ever seems to go down, not up.

But that wouldn't change the ammo... each reload would start back at the save point, with the same ammo.
Anyways, the ammo only ever seems to go down, not up.
I'm still downloading the video.. maybe he reloaded his weapon immediately after the loading zone and edited it out? (Though that would mean he was editing time out, making his actual run-through a little longer than advertised; assuming reloads don't count.)

He could have fired off his rounds during the time edited out. Even if he was cheating (which I still don't think there's evidence for), he never gives himself a lot of ammo, and his feat is still impressive.

Really, the amazing thing about the video isn't necessarily the exact time or the illusion that it was recorded in one go (whether it was or not) - it's the absolute expertise shown at every stage. The guy knows his shit, and has some pretty cool and imaginative level exploits. I knew some of them, but most of them were new to me.
So, forget about the ammo count, forget about the timer, just enjoy the clockwork precision with which he pwns the game.

At one point there is a 36 round discrepency. He has 36 spare rounds for his shotgun, then he has 0 spare rounds for his shotgun.

This could easily be due to having reloaded the map.
Anyways, if he's cheating, it's making it harder on him rather than easier, so who cares? There's no cheating in how he moves or shoots, which is what's so cool.

If the link had been to the offical host, you would have seen an explanation that participants are able to film their runs in "segments", with a .5 second penalty for each segment. The last fastest run was in 100+ segments, while this one was in 21. There is also a very detailed commentary by the person who did the run about each segment.

Commentary and such:

Reloading is still proof that it wasn't done in a single shot. Impressive, but not wholy accurate. Much like the SMB3 in 11 minutes video.

NO ONE EVER CLAIMED IT WAS DONE IN ONE TAKE.

Impressive, but not wholy accurate. Much like the SMB3 in 11 minutes video.
SMB3 WAS DONE FRAME BY FRAME IN A ROM. THIS WAS NOT FAKED. NICE FALSE ANALOGY.

Claiming it was beat in 45 minutes is incorrect. Its also assumed the game was done in one setting unless otherwise stated. No one pointed this out earlier hence my statement.

Depends on how you look at it. This was presented without information indicating what it was and the imediate impression is that its real. I pointed out this is false. Its not faked, but its also not real.

Now I suggest you calm down.

That's the total time from when the clock is supposed to start to the end.
Its also assumed the game was done in one setting unless otherwise stated. No one pointed this out earlier hence my statement.
It's pointed out quite clearly on the offical site, which I linked.

What the fuck are you babbling about?

Now I suggest you calm down.
You're the person who came in here saying "he cheated". I wasn't the one who made the grossly false analogy. I suggest you STFU if you don't like it.

He didn't actually beat Half Life in 45 minutes. It actually took him much longer than. What he did do was to demonstrate how someone _could_ beat HL in 45 minutes.

To say that one has done it, one would have to complete the entire thing with no reloads at all.

And how do you know I didn't enjoy the video? I just pointed out that its not exactly what it appears to be.

Furthermore, kindly knock it off. I insulted no one and now the two of you decide to try and make fun of me. Makes me wonder what your problem is.
