This goddamn LCD is NOT WORKING

Post by Dalton »

I picked up a Sylvania (ProView) 17" LCD (Model CL772) for $300 today ($200 after rebates). After I got it all set up and plugged in, I turned it on and was greeted with my desktop, no problems at all. So I decide to go about tweaking it so it doesn't look like shit, and lo and behold, every time I fiddle and tweak and try to FIX the damn thing I get a "Mode Not Supported" error. My video card is a Radeon 8500LE, and it does support DDC, but nothing fucking works. I do, however, have a 64-bit processor and mobo with a new Radeon 9600XT almost ready to in, which MIGHT fix the problem...but first...

Any clues?

Well what exactly are you trying to change? Internal monitor settings (through the buttons in front), or settings for your screen on Windows?

Sounds like refresh rate or resolution is too high. Try safe mode and fix it.

I didn't know Sylvania makes LCDs... I've only seen their light bulbs...

Try setting the display at 1280*1024 @ 60hz

Yeah, didn't work. I've been futzing with both internal and monitor settings, or at least trying to, because I can't change the monitor settings while it has the "Mode Not Supported" message on. I *do* think it's the refresh rate that's making it cry, though.

I just realized that the monitor is reading the vertical refresh rate as 59.9 instead of 60. Would this be what's causing the issue? Man, I even tried updating to the latest Catalyst drivers. Jesus.

As far as I know, you should try to set a vertical refresh of 75Hz for an LCD.

I swapped out my old Radeon with the new 9600 I bought and the monitor now works perfectly. *cackles evilly*
