Ok, here's the deal.

When I got my new tower a while back, I had no problem getting online. I'd just plug it into the cable modem and away I went. But today, I ran into a problem. I was playing CS when I got mad at my dads PC for lagging and decided to play with my tower but now it won't connect.

A week ago I went to a LAN party and a guy there set up my tower for the LAN but I think he did something to my IP address.

I run Windows XP Pro and have little to no networking ablity. Please help.

You could try turning the modem off, wait half a minute, turn it back on and try again.

EDIT: And if that doesn't work, go to Control Panel-> Network Connections-> Local Area Connection, and check if you're dynamically receiving IPs and DNSs. To put it simply, you should have checked areas so that all those boxes where you put in numbers are greyed out.

Also check that you're not getting an IP that starts with "169.x.x.x". The other numbers vary, but Windows sets this IP if the DHCP server isn't responding.

Still doesn't work. My IP doesn't start with 169. I tried what you guys said and nothing.
