File transfering

Post by The Cleric »

I'm having problems getting file sharing up on my wireless network, and was wondering if there was a program that I could use to transfer about 6 gigs from one computer to another. Any help?

Perhaps if you set up a ftp server and transfer it with a ftp client?

herte is a nice free client and server:

FileZilla

I used the Network wizard which set certain folders to share on the network. Stuck the files i wanted to transfer in there and hten copied and pasted it across.

Wasn't much more involved than that

Another vote here for FileZilla. The server is VERY easy to set up, and you'd have to be a brain-dead retard to not be able to figure out the client side. (No, its not one of those dumbed-down programs with a fisher price gui.)

Would a firewall block other computers on the network from seeing each other?

I wouldn't think so, since networks use NetBIOS and the ICF is mainly for inbound TCP/IP.

Filezilla for ftp transfer is the best for windows. Other than that make sure all of the computers are looking for the right workgroup (i know this may seem dumb but i've had a IT guy forget to double check that out and that caused a day's worth of ache).
Beware Windows. Linux Comes.

Same workgroup. I don't know what's wrong. I can access my dad's work computer fine, but can't get to my old one. And I must be retarded, but I don't know how to work FileZilla.

Actually i find Norton Firewall DOES block access, even though i've cleared my PC,
It depends which PC the firewall is on.

Try pinging it to see if they can even see each other at all

If you've used any FTP program in the past, you can use FileZilla without any problem. Click on the site manager button (the very first one on the left) and add the server to the list. Then all you do is click the down arrow next to the site manager button and pick it from the drop-down list. Its that simple.
