Hey guys, quick question. I'm currently using a Hercules sound card with 4.1 surround sound creative speakers. This surround sound really kicks ass for DVD's on the Power DVD player. There's one problem though, when I turn up the sound, the sub gives me a big 'whoosh' when I get lots of bass. When I turn the bass down, it doesn't sound as good. It sounds like I have too much treble. Any suggestions? Does it help to mess with my sound volume settings in the control panel? The Power DVD player doesn't have much in the way of equalization, unfortunately...

Turn the treble down and leave the bass where it is?

Update the Hercules drivers, then use the Hercules control panel to modify your equlizer settings (it should have once built it). Also, what speakers are you using? Computer speakers (with a few noteable exceptions) tend to be pretty big pieces of crap.

Creative speakers. But, for cd's at least, they're really good.

Ok, I played the CD sound track for this movie on my PC and I get awesome equalization. I use the media player for that.

Creative speakers usually are good for music but aside from the Megaworks models (made by Cambridge SOundworks) they really aren't much more than underpowered crap. It's no wonder that you can't get decent frequency equalization out of them.

Update the drivers first.

The amp in the subwoofer might be running out of headroom. As for equalization, I don't think you can do much to flatten out your frequency response.

Does the sub itself have any frequency response control? If so, try fiddling that.

I used to get a fair bit of inappropriate bass response in games on my lounge system when it was a bit off
