How does one export the ICQ contact lists from Trillian? Preferrably into some format so I can later re-integrate them on my new computer.

To my knowledge, it's not possible. ICQ is just a fucking piece of trash and there's nothing that can be done about that.

In your user directory, look for "buddies.xml". You can either 1) just replace the one in your new installation (I usually do this because MSN doesn't save the "groups" like friends, family, etc AFAIK - other services do, I think ICQ, AIM and Yahoo, maybe) or 2) open it in a text editor to read the ICQ#'s of your contacts and manually add them.

Also, if you don't save them, don't worry too much, because for some time ICQ saves the contact list remotely (how smart and innovative of them ;)). If anything, try to install Trillian in another computer and see if it loses any contacts.

EDIT: BTW, depending on how you installed Trillian, the user directory is either in C:\Program Files\Trillian\users, or C:\Documents and settings\<something or the other, maybe Application Data>\Trillian\users.

Thanks, it didn't work and the manual addition option doesn't seem to work for ICQ. But thanks for trying to help.

I know that it works. I've done it several times on several machines, using Trillian and TrillianPro.

To enter them manually, it seems that the entries look like this:

<buddy uri="ICQ:1%3A######%3AEmilio">Emilio</buddy>

Didn't notice before but those %3A aren't part of the code, so you should enter the stuff in between (represented by #).

You can always open your new, shiny BUDDIES.XML and paste the entries form the old BUDDIES.XML.

Swapping the buddies.xml didn't do much good. And the ICQ list doesn't seem to respond. What can I say, it's not working for me.

If it doesn't work, don't SWAP them: ADD them.

Read the old buddies.xml with Notepad, start Trillian, and manually ADD the ICQ codes like you would add new contacts.

Remember to remove the %3A parts tho.

Maybe it's the wrong BUDDIES.XML file. Search your hard drive and see how many you have.
