Windows wont start...
Ya, today I started up my PC and it took a really long time to load. It usually takes less than 20 seconds before my desktop is up. Now it gets up to my wallpaper and thats it. Right-click doesn't work and when I alt.-ctrl.-del., it gives me a list of programs that should be runnings but explorer isn't running.
It was running fine last night with no problems.
Any ideas? Please help.

Start it up. Get to the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete on xp, ctrl+alt+delete then click on task manager on 2000, I forget how to do it on older versions), then click on the new task button (i'm booted into linux right now so I forget where it is exactly and I can't check), type "explorer.exe" in and click run new task or ok or whatever. That should fix it. If it doesn't, then I don't know what to do.
Ya, that was one of the first things I did, unless I miss typed, an dnothing happend. I'll try again though.darthdavid wrote:Start it up. Make sure you don't have any viruses or spyware installed.
Beware Windows. Linux Comes.

Last time that happened to me, it ended it being a b0rked driver for my netcam that caused it.
Boot into safe mode and see if it still happens.
(btw darthdavid, the correct syntax would be just "explorer")

Duh. It's a joke.phongn wrote:Telling him to install Linux is not exactly a solution to his problem. Dan -- run in Safe Mode first and see if that works.
Actually, I'm having the same problem. After installing Longhorn, my computer fails to boot in XP (on the other partition). It gets locked on the Welcome screen. Safe mode does not work.
I did install Daemon tools just before installing Longhorn, and thought that might be it, BUT when i start in safemode and tell it not to load the driver for that, it still has the same problem.

That's unusual. Did you install Longhorn to the same directory as Windows XP?Actually, I'm having the same problem. After installing Longhorn, my computer fails to boot in XP (on the other partition). It gets locked on the Welcome screen. Safe mode does not work.

Nope, I installed Longhorn to the D: drive.
Strangely though, when I'm booted in Longhorn, now the drive letters are mixed around. The former D: drive is now "Local Disk 1" and when you check properties of it, it's the C: drive, and now the C: drive is the D: drive.
Very strange.
However, boot.ini records using partition 1 and 2 like LH, not C and D, and it's obviously booting XP, just not all the way.

I didn't get it illegally, if thats what you're thinking.
Go to pro-networks.org, they're registered with Microsoft and can legally give copies of the Longhorn Alpha to registered members.
You have to join, and stay on the board for a couple days and contribute (make good, helpful posts) until they give you Longhorn and make you a tester. Then you can run off if you want , or stay registered for help and support when you have trouble.
