Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Its the new, 2004 game revised by Avalon Hill. I just played it yesterday, and I have to say it is better by orders of magnitude. Some of the changes include:
*Artillery which can support infantry in attacks
*Destroyers that negate a submarine's surprise ability
*National benefits like Luftwaffe dive-bombers and Russian salvage teams
*A modified map setup, giving Germany more territories.
*New victory conditions using "cities of control"
*Lower prices and more money.
I was wondering if anyone else had played this game yet, and what they thought of it?
I had a blast playing as Germany. I got rockets from research and my national benefit is Luftwaffe Dive-bombers, so that means my fighters can do strategic bombing runs, with a d3 instead of d6 damage. Japan has been back-and forth, with some huge naval battles with America, but hasn't been doing much to Russia. Meanwhile, next time we play I've got 14 tanks againt 6 infantry in moscow.
Between my rocket attacks and dive-bombers, I'm keeping UK to about 10 IPCs a turn, and I've taken though not held the brittish isles twice! US built a massive fleet after it sacked Japan, so currently the pacific is quiet and US and I are going to slug it out next turn. I actually have a battleship and a full aircraft carrier!
IMHO, its a better, more exciting game than the original.

It is a board game, actually. A famous one, at that.

What Axis &Allies are we talking about here? Game Domain on Yahoo also lists a 11/02/04 release date:

So are you playing a retread of the old one that came out? This preview certainly sounds like the game you're playing and I can't find it on sale at CompUSA, BestBuy or Amazon's website.

I don't know what to tell you. I'm playing the new, 2004 Axis & Allies revised edition, with the new map and new rules. Its a board game, not a computer game, which is I think what you're looking for.Stravo wrote:What Axis &Allies are we talking about here? Game Domain on Yahoo also lists a 11/02/04 release date:

Playing this in the board game version? Yeow. I seem to remember the last time I played it, it took us nearly an hour to hammer out the starting game.
