Amusingly, Microsoft even managed to break Office XP. I think they've outdone themselves this time.

Does this mean that they'll be releasing a patch to fix this problem, but the patch will start many new problems, which will be fixed with another patch that causes different problems, and so on until you reach the point where you can't play Solitare without your computer self-destructing?

Er, I'm on SP2 and most of the stuff that apparently doesn't work, is running right now. :?:

Not "broke" but "may work differently". Try reading it. Most of that stuff is running fine for me, I can't check SFC3 right now however. About to test Medieval.

Yes, the programs may or may not behave differently -- and that is not the same as ceasing to work. I'm honestly not surprised, there are a lot of major changes in WXP SP2 and SP-related breakings are not uncommon.

If SP2 is supposed to have major changes tothe way security is handled in XP, then that is more reason for me to use other 3rd party hardware/software solutions. As far as I am concerned, another reason not to trust Microshit with securing your box.

One thing I've discovered. DHCP requests via Wireless seem generally broken on SP2. But only with some cards, I've seen it a lot on the web now with people complaining. My personal Linksys card isn't working anymore. :?

For fucks sake.

Everything from:
Is the result of the firewall being on by default. You will have those problem anyway, if you have a firewall installed which block all inbound connections by default.

Now the stuff at the bottem of the page of the link: not truely a shitload of applications
are ones which break for reasons not related to the fucking firewall.

Right, but the Wireless problem isn't Firewall related

EDIT: I think it should be fair for the topic to be changed. So people don't brush by and jump on the Anti-MS bandwagon without real evidence. As they usually do :p

I've encountered no problems at all, but I am not using the built-in firewall. I think that's my salvation.

Err, in an event like this it would be more like 'fix' explorer.

I tried it, then disabled XP configuration and used software. Based on other claims across the net, it's a Linksys incompatibility, I imagine new drivers will come out soon.

So far, no problems bar a broken AVG to be fixed by re-installing.
