Red Orchestra, a total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, is in my opinion, without a doubt, one of the best mods in existence. It has been mentioned here at SD.net few times, but I don't think there has ever been a thread dedicated for it. If anything deserves a thread, it's this awesome mod.

Does anyone here play it?

RO team just released the 3.0 version, which is a very solid package.

I've played all the previous releases, but have yet to try v3.0. Are the vehicles implemented well?

Looks nice.

Is is worth getting UT2004 just to play that mod?

Damn, I thought it was about the Soviet spy rings in Berlin (Tha could be a fn TR RPG).

Between RO, Alien Swarm, Neotokyo and the Invasion mode included with the game, i'd say yes.

Yes they are. At first I was afraid that RO would become like Bf1942, but my fears were unfounded.

The brand new artillery system that's also in 3.0 is cool.

Agreed. :)

Bloody hell, makes me want to buy the game. Call of Duty didn't have enough Red weapons.

Soviet marines! There's nothing like emptying your drum magazine into facist invaders at close range . . . or maybe ambushing a group of Soviets with well-placed MG-34 bursts when playing as these guys >>

RO 3 is much more polished than previous releases, its a big improvement. Don't expect proper panzerfaust sighting yet, tho. And, unfortunately, I've seen alot of hostility to newbies on many servers. The devs need to implement kick-votes to defeat the Smacktard Factor(tm).

And yes, RO 3, Air Bucaneers and Alien Swarm are reason enough to buy UT2k4; I bought 2k4 when it came out (and got cheated out of the later DVD release, bah) and after playing Onslaught and discovering the not-advertised-at-all Linux distro on my discs all my friends bought it.

Can RO be played with the UT 2004 demo?

*raises eyebrow* I don't know - I assume not. It doesn't use much of the original ut2k4 textures etc, but I don't think the demo allows you to use mods. Its only 400meg, pull it down and try.

I've been toying with the idea...maybe I'll try tomorrow.
