Question Regarding Wireless Networks
I've been wondering...I know it is possible to monitor what websites are visited on a wireless network (a large one, like the one found in a workplace, university, or internet cafe'). However, how much detail can the administrators scry? Can they tell, for example, whom I send e-mails to? What songs I search for on Kazaa lite? What files I download?

It's possible for anyone to intercept all data transmitted on an unencrypted wireless network, since the radio waves spray everywhere. If the signal has encryption, only people with the key (admin) can decode intercepted packets. From the intercepted data, someone can see all activity over the network. Assuming they log it all and want to take the trouble to go through it, that is.

I think what he is asking is, what can the network admins see on a wireless network? The answer is, it's just like any other network. Assuming it's not an assbackward router or whatever hardware they're using, yes, they can monitor any and all connections you make. But they cannot, however, read your e-mails or see what songs you download. I suppose someone could have it setup to log all packets and then go through them later to determine what kind of stuff you're sending..but highly unlikely.

Not that I know of, at least short logging every single packet as Super-Gagme said. They would know you are connecting to a p2p network however.What songs I search for on Kazaa lite? What files I download?
