I've got a weird DVD-ROM drive problem

For some reason my DVD-ROM drive, which has been fine with reader basically all CDs and DVDs that I've had it run (besides the faulty coasters, of course), but recently it's been unable to read any CDs (whether they are games, music, magazine coverdiscs, or burned datadiscs) properly.
It's still running DVDs perfectly fine, but now I've had to resort to using my CD burner to read CDs. Anybody know of similar problems (especially if there is a solution involved)?

Sounds like cleaning problem. Go to some computer or office store and buy a good cd lens cleaner. Use it and that should fix the problem.

how old is the dvd drive in question? the lens might be out of alignment or dirty, preventing it from reading other formats.

I'll try that.

Ehhh... About a year old, I think.

You can also take a can of air and blast out the drive. If cleaning the lens doesn't do anything, then the drive is going south. (That happened to the 10x Acer I used to have.)
