Sounds like they got it right!

Fascinating stuff.

I'm glad they created a cohesive ending to FFVII. Should be fun to see how AC turns out.

What really amazes me about this is that Square really seems to be pushing the envelope with regards to the action. Instead of spending millions on creating unnecessary hyper-realistic characters (a la FF: TSW) they are instead pushing the envelope cinematically and creating action scenes the likes of which have not been seen in film. Bravo.

As to releasing this in theaters as the article suggests Square would like to do, I'd say that while I'd personally like to see it in the theater, it doesn't make much sense since this isn't exactly a standalone chapter and those that haven't played FFVII probably would probably just end up confused at the plot.

It looks like the film itself is great though (the 90 minute running time is especially great; 45 minutes would have been far too short) I just hope they get a stellar cast together to voice act the characters. Who else thinks Billy West would make a great Cloud?

According to the article, it's possible that the movie may be up to 90 minutes long, but the planned running-time is 45 minutes, which is far, far too short. I'd love to see it be 90-minutes, but it could fall well below that.

I just hope that the voice acting is good.

The Japanese voice acting will undoubtedly be good, but the dub could be hit or miss as is the case with most English dubs.

Wow... reading the spoilers on that website makes me want to see it even more. It looks like it's going to be a great movie.

They don't have to dub. They can just re-render with different lip movements. That's what they did with TSW.

Well, you're talking about lip synching. Poor lip synching is the least of the problems found in most American dubs, poor scripting is usually the #1 culprit.

And I think this preview reveals beyond all doubt who the figure shrouded in white will be.

That's true, but the dialogue in TSW wasn't the typical "translated in a night" garbage that plagues most anime dubs. Hell, the dialogue in the last few Final Fantasy games has been pretty well-translated. Square has to sell a quality product world-wide, after all. I'm sure they have competent translators.

Any word on who the American voice talent will be?

That is true, and there's also the fact that the voice actors in the FFX games were generally pretty good. Plus this is a movie and having better voice talent will probably be a priority. I do hope the R1 DVD release also includes the Japanese language track, though.

No word yet, obviously, on who the American voice talent is. Here's hoping they cast Mr. T as Barrett and R. Lee Ermey as Cid. :D

Actually, FF: TSW was designed for the American market, not the Japanese one. It was created at the now defunct Square USA facility which was based in Hawaii and was created specifically for creating films for the American market and at least half of its staff were American animators.

That said, I still think the translation will be top notch; Square's US branch has only gotten better in the last few years and this is a project which hinges on an excellent translation and they have the resources to give it one. Further, this film has a much greater chance of seeing success in the US due to the dual factor of movies being more popular and the huge popularity of FFVII.

I called that months ago, it's been obvious from the beginning that they wouldn't bother shrouding someone unless it was either Aeris or Sephiroth.

Nonsense, it's Rufus Shinra. Who else would they refer to as "Mr. President"?

Really? Interesting, I skimmed through the details of the article since I didn't want to read any spoilers so I missed that point. I guess that makes sense too. :D

very cool sounding so far going by the article. and am i the only one that thinks Mr. T would be the ideal choice to play the voice of Barrett in this one?

I hope it's a re-rendered and lip-synched English track though. I'm not going to watch it in Japanese.

I could see Christian Bale being a good Cloud.
