after installing mouse won't work on my gateway laptop, I had before to completely reinstall everything after messing up the system disk.,

You re-installed your operating system because a new mouse wouldn't work? Thats kinda...dumb. Chances are it was just a simple driver problem, or it was DOA. If it was the latter, then you could've just taken it back and exchanged it for a new one.
