For all you console RPG gamers out there, have a look at this game:
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
This is the low key sequel to another low key yet excellent title, 2001's Shadow Hearts. If you like games like Final Fantasy but hate the overused cliches and formulaic gameplay, give this one a spin. Shadow Hearts is my favorite RPG on the PS2, and its sequel looks to be even better.

Cool...nice to hear the sequel of the sequel to just a plain oddball game is still decent.
Eventually I'll pick one up.
Though from friends who played and beat the import version...it's odd they chose the ending they did. Ah well hopefully they follow into reasons why perse storywise.

Damnit. Ever since Zaia told me Shadow Hearts was a good game, I've been looking all over for it. No luck yet.

I just beat the first one this weekend (got it used for something like 10 bucks). Beat Atman, got the good ending. Still need to go back and get the Seraphic Radiance (I have Amon). Actually, I need to do most of the sidequests still, since I pretty much just followed the main plot. And was it me, or did Zhuzhen really suck once you reached Europe? I baiscally ended up with Yuri, Alice, and either Keith or Margarete most of the time (taking Halley would have given me two spellcasters, which I don't like). My fusions were usually Czernobog (so I could steal MP back when I drained it in battle), Forron or Lobo (the two strongest physically; Forron has better attack, Lobo has better defense), and Amon (heh...the #2 fusion in the game, behind Radiance). If Alice was out, I'd replace Forron/Lobo with Sandalphon. Egil and Seravi I found nearly useless.

I just had to ressurect this thread with the latest from Penny Arcade about SH: Covenant. The best part about this is that it's completely true!

*grumble* Trying to level up the wolf now in preparation for liberating the guy Lenny kidnapped (trying to avoid any big spoilers).
I really like the new Judgment Rings.

The storyline is a little odd, but I really liked seeing a certain character from the first game again inside Yuri's graveyard (can't give any spoilers
).
The battle system is just top notch, the Judgement Rings have been improved noticeably and the combos are just fun as hell to try and pull off. This battle system is probably the best I've seen in an RPG EVER; leaps and bounds ahead of even Grandia and Chrono Trigger.

I gave up for the night; playing the Blanca as Solid Snake section was getting irritating, because I want the Zodiac Bracelet that can be earned in a particular way in that scene, and I kept screwing up. I'll try again after I rest up and get my reaction time back to normal.

I just rushed through that section; fucking Zodiac braclet be damned. As long as I can get the new Seraphic Radiance I'll be happy.
