Recommendations for a new ATI user

Post by weemadando »

Just made the switch to ATI (have an MSI RX800Pro) after many years of nVidia use and am wondering whether or not there are any things I should know about ATI cards/drivers etc?

Uninstall your nvidia drivers, get driver cleaner, boot into safe mode and use the program to eliminate all traces of the NV sotware, then boot normally to install the ATI drivers.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

You're going to need the Microsoft .NET Framework in order to install the newest ATI drivers. Get it from Windows Update.

:wtf:

All the more reason to stay NVIDIA

I had horrible experiences with ATI cards and getting them to work in
the past...

I just installed the latest ATI drivers without .NET. You only need .NET if you want to install their full-blown technowank CATALYST control centre. Basic graphic card drivers, functionality, and control panel software installs just fine without it.

They will only support the legacy release for a very short time according to ATI PR people. Soon you will have no choice but to move to .NET.

So you're saying that resistance is futile?

More or less. Preperations for Longhorn mean that both nVidia and ATI are moving to .NET for their drivers and they will have to both cease supporting their legacy control panels at some point.

Not to mention the new CCC drivers, except their inside horrible loading times from menu to menu, give nice preformance boosts to any card, even a dusty 9700 Pro.
