No, it's not concrete, or official, but Gamespot have let fly wild rumours that something Shocking may be in the works at Irrational in their Restrospective on Shock 2.
Which, if confirmed, would possibly cause the more enlightened PC gamers to cream their trousers with glee.

I can't play my original System Shock anymore. Pisses me off. Can't they make a version for windows, goddamit?

You were right the first time- I see nothing in that preview to see any indications of it being a clone of RE in any way.I retract my last statement. My apologies, I thought you were talking about System Shock. Yes, this BioShock thing does look like an RE clone to me.

I was talking about the gameplay, not superficial differences of plot in an extremely early stage of gaming press coverage. RE sucks. System Shock doesn't.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Apart from the whole biological creatures of death in some secret lab becoming a menace to the world thing and mutating humans.

RE certainly doesn't suck, but you're quite happy to have that wrong opinion.Vympel wrote: I was talking about the gameplay, not superficial differences of plot in an extremely early stage of gaming press coverage. RE sucks. System Shock doesn't.
I was only referring to plot anyway which has been done to death by RE. If I want another System Shock, it has to be like the first two and not some first person RE.
The control system is shitty and unresponsive, the puzzles are tedious. It sucks. Eternal Darkness shat all over it.Admiral Valdemar wrote:

It can't be a first person RE. RE has it's own (crappy) gameplay that SShock, or any spiritual successor, would never mirror.I was only referring to plot anyway which has been done to death by RE. If I want another System Shock, it has to be like the first two and not some first person RE.

Controls suck, yeah, but that's one thing RE4 has set out to improve.Vympel wrote:

A pox on you! No, even better, a T-Virus on you!

The games are totally different, so there's no comparison, I just saw Bioshock's basic plot as familiar.

Wow, you mean Resident Evil is actually a System Shock 1 clone.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Apart from the whole biological creatures of death in some secret lab becoming a menace to the world thing and mutating humans.Vympel wrote:

Rather, RE is the culmination of every zombie and survival based film/book/game since then. I'm sure we could go back and find something else that predates the '94 release of SS, but that's silly. Besides, the original SS is forgettable. The sequel was far superior in every way.Slartibartfast wrote: Wow, you mean Resident Evil is actually a System Shock 1 clone.
It sure did, and it even kept the 'stupid logic puzzle' factor which was never a part of SS.Vympel wrote:The control system is shitty and unresponsive, the puzzles are tedious. It sucks. Eternal Darkness shat all over it.Admiral Valdemar wrote:

This doesn't sound so good tho, although its early days. I'd rather SS1 on the SS2 engine, but thats just Jet Rollerskates Stark for you.

Uhh, I think you need to the crack pipe down because the original System Shock was anything but forgetable and most shockers consider it to be betterAdmiral Valdemar wrote: Rather, RE is the culmination of every zombie and survival based film/book/game since then. than SS2.

You are out of your fucking mind. The original SS is anything BUT forgettable (unless you're an style-over-substance kidna guy). The sequel was pretty good but it doesn't compare, AND it had the whole MUTATED BIO ZOMBIES theme before RE even existed on paper, and saying it's a copy of Resident Evil's plot is completely assinine.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Rather, RE is the culmination of every zombie and survival based film/book/game since then. That, and Resident Evil is a shameless Xerox copy of Alone in the Dark. But less scary.
People who think Shock is somehow 'forgettable' should check out the (UK) PC Gamer Top 100s, in which it managed to appear consistently for years. Hell it was even in the top ten as late as 2000/2001 (I forget exactly when, but it was a long time after release)...
System Shock is a fucking landmark for PC games, it's almost the very start of bringing emergence into action adventure gaming, and it invented Thief and Deus Ex.
Now, where's my Jet Skates?
