Exposure is too short to get any starlight. See videos from Moon landings, and Shuttle missions.Stofsk wrote:I don't see any fucking stars. THey're in space, but I don't see any stars. Goddamn it.

You'll want a good computer (2.0Ghz+) if you want the kind of battle that they're showing there. Mind you on my computer the spectuclar and other effects aren't as good as is shown there, but the core gameplay is there - the battles are pretty long ranged and true to star wars. My micromanagement isn't good enough to use starfighters in multiple capitial ship battles though.

Did you not see that it's in beta, and that all the modeling is being done by one guy? Cut him some slack.Stofsk wrote:I don't see any fucking stars. THey're in space, but I don't see any stars. Goddamn it.

I have the current version and I think it sucks. I don't understand the obsession with making everything exactly to scale, the way it is you end up with 2 pixel-wide Corvettes and fucking invisible TIE fighters, unless you zoom to the maximum level, in which case you can only see the TIE and it takes like, 1/50 of the screen but you can't even see what it's shooting at.
This is supposed to be a RTS not a friggin first person shooter, units can perfectly well be "3d representations" of actual ships... now you don't see Navy ship radar operators using microscopes do you?

I don't know, man... haven't played the game, but I understand the attraction of looking at the battles and seeing them to scale, as it were. It's one thing to look at the screens and imagine what these icons represent - it's quite another to stand on the bridge and watch your units wreak death and bloody carnage. To watch your enemies break apart and scream in the face of fiery oblivion, that's truly when you come alive. And there's nothing greater than using your forces as a fiery hammer to smite the unbelievers, rewarding their struggles with death! Glorious, ceaseless death! MWAHAHA! BWAHAHAHA!Slartibartfast wrote:I have the current version and I think it sucks. ...ahem, or so I would imagine. Haven't actually played Homeworld 2 at all, or any other strategy time for some time now, I have to admit. Ever since the men in the white coats took the games from me, I've been languishing with no RTS to comfort me.
I will get them back soon, just you wait, preciouss.
EDIT: I perused the FAQ for the mod and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. Particularly his analysis of Dark Empire's Battle of Calamari is... exceedingly flawed. He uses the fact that Lando's task force destroyed the Allegiance with one salvo as a rationale that any full salvo from an ISD will do as much damage to another ISD (e.g.: crippling or destroying the ship).
Small problem: the Allegiance was unshielded.
I know it's petty to say such things about one who has devoted such a wealth of time on the mod, but this and his general attitude in the FAQ just screams "stupid" to me.

This was posted weeks ago. I downlaoded it then and played it solid for a week. The problem is the battles are too one sided. The biggest rebel ships are at most ISD sized while the Executer class Star Dreadnaught is huge and can wip out everything. Lousy as a single player game but fun for a LAN party.

That Mon Remonda model looks quite a bit bigger than an ISD, not to mention Home One, assuming it made the game. Though certainly neither is a match for the Executor.Lord Pounder wrote:The biggest rebel ships are at most ISD sized while the Executer class Star Dreadnaught is huge and can wip out everything.

Just floating crap. In the original HW2, I think it orbits their planet construction station or something where they deploy the mothership.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:What are those massive doodads in the backgrounds of the first and last pic supposed to be?
At least the last one. The first one could be a weird cloud. In either case I think they're just a background picture, not truely 3D.

I'd rather we have a vast sea of stars than more fucking nebulae. I don't give a shit about realism when the overall aesthetic is found lacking. Since this is what the fucking movies depict, I feel its important for any SW game to have this background. This isn't Babylon 5, with every space shot full of some goddamn nebula, unless it happens to be around Earth.Beowulf wrote:Exposure is too short to get any starlight. True, I should cut him some slack. My gripe wasn't at his work though. It's more to do with the game itself, Homeworld 1 didn't have the sea-of-stars I wanted, but instead countless bloody nebulae. Homeworld 2 looks the same. It's not a slight on the modder's sole effort, and I did not mean to disparage his work.Rogue 9 wrote:Did you not see that it's in beta, and that all the modeling is being done by one guy?
