The new Metal Gear or the new GTA? OH GOD THE CHOICES

Post by Butterbean569 »

ARGH!

Both the new MGS and the new GTA are coming out pretty soon, which is awesome. What *isn't* awesome is that I'll probably only be able to buy one of these when it comes out...then get the other one around xmas time. Anyone wanna help me choose which one? I'm about an equal fan of both series...so which one looks the best?

New GTA dammit! Then you can tell me how good it is so I'll be drooling with anticipation when it comes out for PC next May. :D

Seriously though, let's tally up what San Andreas has over Vice City:
  • 5 times the play area
3 different cities, a huge wilderness with forests and deserts, and a smattering of small towns strewn throughout said wilderness
Many more driveably vehicles, including but not limited to a lawnmower, tractor-trailer with new trailer physics, a combine harvester, ATVs, pedal bicycles, monster trucks, trains, trolley cars, and jets
    Swimming, 'nuff said
A whole new "food dynamic", so to speak. Your character gets hungry if he doesn't eat for a while, and how much and how often you eat and exercise (by running, working out at the gym, or fight training) determines your character's appearance
    Slot machines, dammit
Car modding, including roofs, fenders, wings, bumpers, NOS, and even the bass level of the stereo :D
A new "stealth" aspect to gameplay, similar to Manhunt
Street signs, so you don't get lost in the big cities. This happened to the dev team, and that's why signs have been added.
And a whole shitload of stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting
In other words: Buy San Andreas, dammit! :D

GTA all the way. I've never really liked the MGS games though, but GTA is going to be awesome.

I haven't heard much about the MGS games, but I've been almost crapping myself in anticipation for the new GTA game. With what I know, the only disadvantage I can think of is that it's going to sell so fast, it will be hard to find. Of course, that won't be a concern for me, since I'll probably get it 6 months after it comes out (I didn't get Vice City until a few weeks ago, after all).

I'm gonna have to go with the flow here and agree: GTA.

I mean, you can have this huge world of open ended gameplay, or you can have a movie covertly packaged as a video game MkII.

I'm going to have to buck the trend and say Metal Gear Solid. GTA is a good splatter game that gets quick but MGS is a great story and awesome game play.

MGS: You can kill people, and eat snakes.

GTA: You can do all that, and everything else. Except eating snakes.

Damn. I've been yearning for a snake-eating video game ever since Nintendo's classic 8-bit platformer, Let's Eat Some Fucking Snakes, Bitch! That game showed that there was very little market for a snake-eating game... let's hope this new snake-eating game will turn that trend around. In fact, I bet Nintendo will go back to its original snake-eating roots and put out Super Mario Slither Chomp, or maybe The Legend Of Zelda: The Snake-Eating of Time, but they won't be as good as the snake-eating of MGS.

Did I mention that you can eat snakes? Don't wanna miss that snake-eating, there. Which, need I remind you, you can't do in GTA.

Ah, but in GTA, you can eat everything but snakes, and get FAT for it! Hell, does MGS let you mow people down with a lawnmower (!) or a fucking combine harvester? Can you jack a bulldozer and drive it around, flipping shit over with its controllable bucket? I submit that you cannot. :P :D

Firstly, I don't like Metal Gear Solid. I just can't get into it enough to make it past like the first or second mission. Plus, once you get done with the game, there are usually some extras and stuff, but it just doesn't strike me as replay value, hell, it doesn't even strike me with once through value.

However, the new GTA is probably right up everyone's ally. In fact, I hope this game does more then exceedingly well for the simple fact I want the genre to thrive. GTA III, GTA VC, Spiderman 2, the MMORPG City of Heroes on the PC all thrive from this. You get your linear storyline. If all goes well, or they just rip the engine itself, great gameplay, excellent controls and pretty good graphics. Not to mention the innumerable amounts of specials, extras and side missions.

Pound for pound, while I never finished Vice City (LoL!) San Andreas is already shaping up to be a contender for game of the year. This is even if it just continued on the path of being another GTA. EGM, Gamepro and other sources have shown in thier articles the multitudes of features that are being added to the game. This should easily satisfy the need for gaming almost everyone has. Myself, being a hypocrite, am getting Halo 2 and Metroid Prime 2. Heh.

I'll get both, but GTA: SA is for the PC in my case. The PS2 version has horrid controls as I found GTA: VC was far better on my PC. MGS3 is a pure console game to me. It's more convenient since the PC version of MGS2 was bloody high-spec stuff.

Don't forget HL2 as well!

Both- MGS for PS2, but I'll wait for the PC version of SA, most likely. They may have stuffed up the PC version of GTA3, but VC was much better put together, not as buggy etc.

yeah, that´s what makes him so extremely lovable. i don´t like most games which don´t have any sence of humor and almost try to prohibit laughing.

GTA. There's nothing more fun than stealing cars, killing people, running people over with cars, and causing general mayhem. It gives you an outlet for all your criminal fantasies. Yeah, I've always wanted to shoot a rent-a-cop with his own gun after beating him with his own truncheon. How fun is that?

Thing is, GTA: SA is all black gangsta stuff which doesn't really appeal to a lot of people I know who loved the other games. I actually loved the Vice City idea more, but I hope GTA: London is going to be next after SA is finished.

Besides, MGS3 is necessary if I'm to find more on the Patriots...

PS2. I actually rented it about a year and a half ago, and those files weren't compatible since it's been such a long time and this is a newer version with many of the glitches fixed and "offensive" references to Haitians removed.

Yarrrrr! Tell me about it. I haven't run across any bugs, but man that format is annoying to play in.

I'll be getting GTA: SA (probably renting first, cheap bastard that I am) for PS2. I don't know why people don't like the PS2 controls for VC. Then again, I'm not much of a mouse and keyboard FPSer, so that may be it.
