online game for ship to ship combat

Post by Typhonis 1 »

ok I was searching the net when I found this interesting site. These are online backups for an old game some of you may remeber.

Leviathan is interesting in that as Emperor Ming mentioned to me it could be modded as a Star Wars ship combat game.

basically multi km long warships slugging it out . it uses thrust points for movment ...IE if last turn you moved 10 hexe4s this turn you move ten hexes unless you decelerate.

hexes are 75km across... but the ships signiature can be multiple hexes BB is 4 hexes long and can take several hexes to turn .

There was also at least one computer game based on this universe. It was a fairly basic flightsim-type game called Battle for Jacob's Star. I remember that when I read the backstory I thought that they whole thing was a huge rip-off of Star Wars.

I thought that the game itself was pretty good at the time, although I hadn't played games like X-Wing or Wing Commander at the time, both of which blow it out of the water. It still had some interesting bits, though, like the way that you could select your wingmen for each mission. Their statistics would improve the more you used them, but they also had a fatigue level that you had to keep your eye on.

Not really since Renegade Legion is set in the Milky Way Galaxy. Basically you can play as TOG or as the Commonwealth/Renegade troops.

TOG is invading Commonwealth Space to finaly bring the Galaxy under Ceasars rule. BUt they are slowing down the conquest and it isn`t because resi8stance is stiffening.

You couldn't play as TOG in the computer game. You were stuck as a Renegade pilot.

There were actually three computer games. One that was marketed simply as Renegade Legion: Interceptor, I believe, and included custom ship designs, so I heard.

Then there was The Battle for Jacob's Star and Return to Jacob's Star, the first of which included some pretty cool music.

The boardgames simply rocked, with the exception of Prefect, which was damn near unplayable.

Leviathan was very good, though it suffered from a bit of sloppy playtesting and needed a bit of house-rulework as a result.

FASA pulled the plug, eh, about eleven or twelve years ago or so, selling the rights off to Crunchy Frog, who put it under their Nightshift Games department, which released all of one or two supplements before giving up.

Major bummer, because IMO Renegade Legion purely owned Battletech.

Yall are just now finding out about this? I'm a big RL fan. Belive it to be far superior to Btech in just about every way. How big a fan am I? My avatar over at spacebattles is a combo of the RL and TOG logos, and have even made 1 attempt at modeling a RL cap ship.
There is no problem to dificult for a signifigantly large enough quantity of C-4 to handle.

Have you seen the site that has rules for a combination of Battletech and Renegade tech?

didn't know there was a site that had it... I saw the Btech mod rules years ago (refered to as "RenigadeTech" at the time).

Talk about a slaughter.I cannot see ANY Inner Sphere or Clan force that can stand toe to toe with the TOG.

That was fairly obvious to me when I looked at the game scale and movement capabalities of grav armor. Long range for the inner Sphere is medium range for the TOGies/Renegades...
