Metroid vs Halo
Just wondering what you people out there think. Forget the fact that im a Nintendo fanboy, ever since my youth growing up the NES and SNES.
What do you think is a better series the Metroid Prime series or Halo series
The first Prime was long and it took me a good 2-3 weeks to beat. I had fun playing it. It had a good story
for Halo i beat it in 3 days. It was short, level based and i didnt have any fun playing it felt more of well i spent 30 dollars and i must save the humans from wierd looking aliens.
Note: All games are played on Normall difficulty level for first completions

Halo. The multiplayer is where you get the real worth of the game.

"Series" is interesting, currently both have a grand total of one game out with another Halo 2, Echoes and Hunters both yet to be released. Comparing them seems stupid, Halo is your standard FPS, MP is an open exploration/shooter game (and more). But the one I had more fun with was Metroid Prime.

From playing Metroid Prime and Halo singleplayer, I had more fun with Metroid Prime. Halo got repetitive, and I haven't had a chance to play it all the way through at my friend's house, while Metroid Prime stayed varied enough to keep my interest.
Can't compare multiplayer for obvious reasons, so I left this out. I voted MP, but I should've voted for regular Metroid series, since Super Metroid was even more fun.

First thigns first.
Why the hell would you compare Halo between Metroid Prime? The gameplay is made completely different, and there's little to compar of the two. Halo is a FPS while Metroid Prime is a FPA. In Halo you basicly shoot and kill everything out there, it's very fast paced. In Metroid Prime you have to jump platforms, solve puzzles, and use more tactics than you would in a halo game. Though Metroid Prime isnt as fast paced when it comes to the main game, the battles are. Comparing halo and metroid prime, might as well as compare Michael Jackson and my brother... actually, there are some creepy simularities between the two, just compare him to you. Ok, now I'm bored. This subject is brought up in every metroid and halo so many times, explaining it every time gets boring, as the argument is always the same.
One quick question, why did you seperate metroid prime and the rest of the metroid games?

Your HALOage obviously needs some work if you think there's a shortage of tactics in the game. To demonstrate: Right click, save as, and watch the awesomeness. 30 MB Quicktime file.In Metroid Prime you have to jump platforms, solve puzzles, and use more tactics than you would in a halo game.

This gets boring, even though some halo fans dont, most of the halo fans seems to love yelling dull coments. this is the only thing you need to know, Metroid Prime and Halo are completely different, only simularities can be seen by people whom dont get to know either game well, or just knows one of the games.Rogue 9 wrote:And I was setting you straight on HALO not involving tactics. Hrrm. I could say the same thing about Metroid fans. Don't give me that crap. This started with a direct statement from you about a lack of tactics in HALO, and you've been slyly implying stupidity on the part of HALO fans ever since.Secretkiller2000 wrote:fanwankerry?Chardok wrote:Hrrm. Well, before the newbie gets a smackdown, I guess I'll chime in you fuck nuts.
First off, it's not too far off comparing the two, but then again it is. One letter really does make a world of difference. FPS vs. FPA. One is a shooter, the other is an adventure. To be honest with you, I haven't finished Halo single player, though I did it in co-op. However, I'm almost done with the single player campaign and I can easily say that it is merely a fraction of the time it took to play Metroid Prime. The difference is enormous.
What you have in Halo is very much the standard shooter where you wonder around aimlessly trying to duck behing terrain and peek out to shoot your enemies. Unless your on easy, then you just waltz in and mow them down. Either way, your tactics are very clear and never change. Move into position, pick the best weapon for the job and hope your abillities and talents are superior in combat. Multiplayer is the exact same way. While I'm not saying this is a bad things, it's also the same thing that has been going on since Wolfenstein 3D. Shooters have shown very little in the way of variety. Merely what your fighting and with what changes. They all pretty much do the same thing. Shoot and kill.
The Metroid series in general is much different. The series has always been a platform/puzzle game. With Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion you control Samus in a 2-D environment 'jumping' from platfroms (hence the platform jumper, i.e. Mario Bros., Sonic, etc...) and blasting enemies. What we're finding now a days is a return to the platformer. This is not just with the Metroid series. There is an all out brawl on the PS2 involving platform games. (Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper). In Metroid Prime you are once again Samus, and while there are not quite as many platforms, it does involve plenty of hopping, blasting enemies and as always solving difficult puzzles to advance. Using this here, or doing that there will unlock paths or weapons needed to continue on or battle vicous foes.
Quite simply Metroid Prime is a far superior game to Halo. I also believe that while Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is going to be very much like it's predecessor it will still be superior to Halo. In single player form.
Echoes will have a multiplayer, which I have read in articles is very finicky. Probably not a strong point of the game. This leads to an interesting scenerio. I say that Echoes will be better then Halo, single player wise, the multiplayer aspect and replayability will out weigh it's contender. To be perfectly honest I have only played Metroid Prime once since I beat it. That was not all the way through either. It was merely to fight Prime itself again. The time spent to get there and enjoy myself was far more then Halo, and I feel better spent. However, Halo I have found is pretty addictive when it comes to multilplayer. With all of the new features introduced into Halo 2's multiplayer I have a feeling this will appeal to the masses.
Back on topic though, comparing a shooter against an adventure is pure lunacy. Unless something incrediably major comes about, a shooter is just that. A shooter. It's been done, done over, and done again. Guess what, it ain't changed. I don't care what any Half-Life loving hippie says, a shooter is a shooter. End of story. What is being dubbed an 'Adventure' is what we've all come to know and love. An action packed event of exploring AND adventuring, not to mention just some knock down drag out battles. Broken down into thier respective elements both have severe pros and cons. For those who do not like playing against other people, Metroid series in whole is the only way to go.While those who enjoy get togethers and competition will be eagerly awaiting the much sought after Halo 2.

If you can't figure out what your trying to say then shut up.

This thread has no potential, and never did. His second request may have been to asked which series is better and to you utterly pointless but in his opening sentence he asks for what we think of them and I like to know too. I'm a big fan of the GBA Metroid games and I want to know what this one is like.Secretkiller2000 wrote:This thread has no potential, and never did. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
I voted for the old Metroid series. Haven't played Prime, and I hated Halo. The story mode sucked so far as I was concerned, especially in parts where you were supposed to be stealthy and yet had to kill every alien in an area before moving on. And in multiplayer mode I could never quite figure out that damned radar (call me an idiot of video games if you want, it wouldn't be the first time). Often I thought I was right next to somebody but they were on another floor. Other times I would think I was alone, only to be sniped a second later. The old Metroids were challenging and quite fun, IMHO.
"I want to mow down a bunch of motherfuckers with absurdly large weapons and relative impunity - preferably in and around a skyscraper. Then I want to fight a grim battle against the unlikely duo of the Terminator and Robocop. At least two people have already voiced that opinion.Praxis wrote:I don't think it's a very good comparison. Metroid Prime is more of a puzzle/exploring/platforming shooting game, while Halo is a kill-everyone shooting game.
