Browser colors- aging eyes

Post by EmperorChrostas the Cruel »

Old age, and the inevitable need for reading glasses is coming on.

Question. What are some better background/text color schemes that are easier on my eyes?

White background and black text are becoming more and more difficult to read, and I am making some embarassing errors when my mind fills in the "blind spots."
Hmmmmmm.

Black on white and white on black are actually not recommended for color schemes, hehe. Something like beige with coffee text is better. Or just text without too much contrast.

I've always found black background with green text easy to read.

I knew there was a reason I had that as my AIM font.

Same here. White BG suckxs, but certain parts of windows will only use a white bg!

Personally I like to have a pale blue background, with either black or white text, depending how dark the blue is.

Using an LCD display is another good way to save on eyes.

Studies have shown that a light background coupled with dark text is actually the easiest to read. However, that applies best to passively-lit devices (like paper) rather than actively-lit devices where light areas far higher in intensity than dark areas.

Consider upping the text size on your browser and see if that helps.

I actually prefer the default Netscape gray background for black text.

I always found a moderate contrast between foreground and background text helps when lighting is involved (ie black on grey, white on blue, etc) and a medium color on black (ie green or red) works best when it's dark. General rule: the darker the room is, the darker your color scheme should be.
