This fucking anti-John Edwards ad keeps crashing my AIM. It's from something called the November fund. Any ideas as to how to stop it?
It's in the little block at the very top.

I can't run multiple SN's under those (unless it's a new feature) and I hate the way they do chat.

Sure you can, at least for Trillian. Not at once but you can have them.
And the chat's pretty close to AIM last I checked.

I like gaim more than regular clients. Plus you can have as many of each kind of account as you want.

Miranda IM
Free, no ads of any kind, and its open source.

Miranda sucks ass. There is no way to add interesting features to the AIM chat because it's entirely a plugin (unlike gaim where at least the chatroom GUI is standarized and plugins merely interface with the different networks).
Trillian is good too. Looks better than gaim (gaim uses gtk which is ugly), but it's closed-source, so it has some disadvantages, like total lack of support and plugins for non-pro users.

Did you even start looking at the plugins directory before you made up your mind?

Yes, as a matter of fact I even checked a lot of them AND their source code, and I read half of the source code for Miranda itself. And I checked, for example the IRC plugin, and even though they should be the same, there's nothing in common with the IRC chat window, the AIM chatroom and the Instant Message windows.
The chatroom windows are plain ugly, if you get a "smileyadd" plugin, it only appears on the IM windows. And the only reason the AIM chatroom window even shows the smileys at all is because the AIM plugin maker coded the "if smileyadd installed then replace : ( with
".
Your reaction sounds like "you just don't like it because you're not open minded and don't know everything about it". Are you a miranda fundie?

No, it just pisses me off when people say something sucks just after one look at it. Ignorance is one of my big pet peeves, and I assumed by the way you worded your reply that you were one of those people that just take one look at it, without even giving it a chance, and say it sucks.
I've been using Miranda for a LONG time and its really come a long way from what it used to be. The whole point to Miranda IM is to be small, and far more efficient than the original client(s). That means none of the bloat, shiny graphical gui, etc.

I'll give Miranda whirl. Can I sign in with multiple screen names?

If you mean use different IM services, then yes.

Vert, I believe he's talking like multiple AIM names or something so he can stalk people that ban him or something.
(Note I was just using that as a fake example.)

If thats the case, then its a simple matter of changing the username/password in the options. I'm not aware of any plugins that allow multiple screenname logins at once though.

Miranda, Trillian, gaim... it really doesn't matter since they all work (mostly).
Just a warning: For most of those programs, you can't direct IM to people using other programs (ie Trillian to Miranda, gaim to AIM, etc). It's a problem that all of the alternate IM client developers have been working on for some time.

Same thing with file transfer. Sometimes it works, a lotta times it doesn't. All depends on who's using what and if all the planets, moons, and stars are arranged in precise formations the nature of which eludes science at this time.

Thats what annoys me. I can't even send files to half the people on my list because they're either behind some anal retentive firewall or the protocol on their end (or mine) is slightly off and won't allow communication! Thats why I've just about given up on FT and just upload it to my FTP account and send out a link.

Trillian has that ability. I have two AIM SNs running at once when I load Trillian.

How do you enable this one?
I can't find it out in Trillian. . Please, help me!
Thank you!

Simple...just go into the Connection Manager and add a new connection. I can do some screenshots when I get home if you want.

That happens to me also. What I've done is set up the Apache web server in my computer, and I have a dynamic DNS thingy that points directly to my PC, so I just drop it in the webroot folder and tell my friends the link.
Transfer is slow, but it's as fast as a direct transfer anyway.
