Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Two new trailers)

WTF on the Tokyo Game Show trailer and the Cobra unit commandos; the only "normal" ones are The Boss and The Fury. Killer bees?! An old guy with a rifle? Some weird circus freak? WTF?

And some of the previous Metal Gear characters didn't strike you as weird?

Hand vote for anyone who wants Ocelot to be shot Indiana-Jones style while he's spending half the damn game twirling his guns. :P

My, you are a slow one. If a psychic guy with a persona like Steve Buscemi and a Inuit who carries a Vulcan cannon around as a sidearm don't strike you as weird, you've been on loopy juice or something.

By the way, anyone notice how the Shagohod is now a hovercraft instead of the previous E3 model showing it with tracks?

Shit! MGS trilogy?! That means no MGS4! They'd better give us some answers then.

They're always called trilogies until the fourth one comes out.

Not when it says the "final episode" next to that trilogy remark. Either this is the end of the MGS line where a new title for the next game will be found, or this is the final MG game in the primary timeline.

He's obviously a famous Soviet sniper from WW2. Note the Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 rifle. I think it's cool.

Aye, being awoken from eternal slumber to kill some capitalist pig-dog in '64 must be the yearning of every true Soviet soldier.

I really wish they'd bring that limited edition box set out elsewhere other than Japan.

It'd have been better if that bee-man boss had had dogs that shot bees out of their mouth when they barked at you. :D

Bah, that Japanese trailer one was awesome, but the English one?

I made a bet with myself, and I won. I would have made a better voice for Ocelot.

Who cares? He sounds better in later life. I like the Colonel's voice, he sounds a bit like the South African character in The Sum Of All Fears who was also a bad guy in Paycheck.

There won't be a fourth Metal Gear Solid.

That doesn't mean there won't be any more Metal Gear games, just that they'll be a new storyline.

Obviously I care. And it doesn't matter if he sounds better in later life, because his older self doesn't appear in this game!

Excuse me if I like quality voicework.

There's nothing wrong with his voice. I don't see you complaining about Big Boss' voice being identical to Snake's. Just because Ocelot's voice isn't like you wanted it doesn't make it bad voice acting.

I thought most of the voices for the English trailer were lackluster.

I can't see it, myself. They're no different to the quality of the other two MGS games. Barring Ocelot's out of place VA, I found them quite apt. The Japanese versions will always have the most effort behind the voices what with the animé and game industry over there, but I can't complain about the English ones.

I only hope the plot ties up some loose ends, or at least lead to another game with a different title. The Patriot reference at the end of the English "Boss" trailer is promising.

The Shagohod is a hovercraft? And what are those stupid screws for?

And I don't recall the previous one showing tracks - do you mean the shot of it being hauled by the HIND-A swarm?

Yes, it is.

Those "stupid screws" are for clearing obstacles that would otherwise hinder the vehicle's transit such as inconveniences like trees and experimental cargo planes and for also burrowing into the ground at an angle to give support when the SS-20 is ready to fire. They seem able to give a limited crawl ability as the final trailer showed.
And I don't recall the previous one showing tracks - do you mean the shot of it being hauled by the HIND-A swarm?
No, there was clearly a change of heart after E3 last year. Notice, this is the original model illustrated by a cardboard mock-up at the show. This, however, is the model included with the limited edition box set in Japan. The key differences apart from some colour changes (all one bright IGN member could see) are the loss of the tracks, some superficial detail altered and a reshaping of the main body and "head" portion being articulated.

A normal tank would be passé, so defy convention and go with the best new thing around at that time; the hovercraft. Give it a nuke, SAM suite and HMGs and input one rogue Soviet Colonel for a barrel of laughs.

The Shagohod isn't just a hovercraft.

The things the 'screws' are mounted on articulate into legs, it is actually a walker as well. It's possible it uses the screws to drill down into the ground to enter firing position.

You see it storm out of a warehouse in walker mode at the end of the TGS2004 trailer.
