Mouse Trouble

Every now and then my mouse pointer disappears, while an 'ejected hardware' icon (looks like a little green pci card) appears in the system tray.

I can only fix this by unplugging the mouse from the USB port and reconnecting it. Sometimes the mouse disappears for only a second, sometimes it never reappears at all until I replug. There's no discernible difference in the occurrence of this infuriating little problem between the two USB ports...

Help?

What OS are you using? And do you have proper USB drivers for your OS? I've had trouble with USB till I updated the USB controller.

Try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them.

The cabling may have become loose or frayed where it enters the mouse.

It's Win2K SP4, and the mouse is a logitech. There's no apparent damage at all whatsoever.

Open the mouse.

I'm with phongn here, something's more than likely wrong on the inside of the mouse. If its a bad connection, thats easily fixed by getting it re-soldered.
