My new system to be completed by week's end

Post by Hamel »

Athlon 64 3000+
BFG 6800 OC
ECS 755-A2 V1.0 SiS755 Mobo
2x512 Corsair Value Select 3200
Cannibalized 5200 rpm 30 and 80 gig HDs from old computer
Cannibalized DVD and CDR drives
Keeping my blurry-ass 19" monitor

Last week Best Buy had the BFG 6800 OC for 250 bucks, and it came bundled with FarCry. I just had to get it, and when NewEgg had the ram on sale, it sealed the deal for the rest of the system.

My old system over the course of 5(?) years:

Athlon 800 mhz -----> 1 ghz
256 megs of pc100 ram ----> 512 megs
Riva TNT2 ----> GeForce2 ------> GeForce4MX440 -----> FX5200
Same old shitty MSI mobo, though it has decent integrated sound
Windows 98 -----> Windows XP ------> Windows 2000 Pro

OpenEXR in FarCry, here I come!
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Nice rig, I assume its a standerd 6800, and not the GT? good enough, kills anything on its price level.

I wonder what socket your mobo is? just to see your upgrade options :P

And Far Cry and HDR will only run at 1024 rez on your PC, HDR is a preformance hog like nothing else.

:arrow: Standard 6800. You simply couldn't match the price that BB was offering when considering the brand and bundled game.

:arrow: Socket 754 mobo. I could have went with 9xx, but what I chose left only $81 in the bank as it was :oops:

:arrow: I'm willing to sacrifice big res and antialiasing to use EXRHDR.

This system is meant to tide me over until late next year, or whenever dual core cpus become available to consumers.

If you mean to upgrade soon, its a nice base, everything except the CPU, mobo and GPU can be saved ;)

If your willing to go down to 1024 res and only 2AA, your going to enjoy HDR, check my screenie thread for some examples :twisted:

I thought AA didn't work with EXR?

Anyways, I'm posting from my new system. Only problems setting it up came from voltage settings on the PSU. This thing runs like a monster.
