OK, no matter what I do I can never get past this part of the game.
I have it set to the hard level, I am the Empire trying to take the base
on Yavin. Any tips anybody can give?
I have tried being the stormtrooper, pilot, shock trooper all of them, I
still can't get it done. Have you? If so, tell the board how.

a big part of the problem for me was the massive lag, which always occured right after I died & respawned.
Yes, the lag problem, that happens to me too. About 3 or 4 of my team
will be gone by the time I get back to the battle.
I realize that I will have to take out the majority of the Rebels myself,
but as there are 200 of them, that makes it hard to do. The most I
have killed so far is 33 myself.
Imperial Pilot + walker works great. March into their base. As SOON as you see a Rebel speeder open get out of the walker and steal it, then nuke your own walker. The rebel speeder is better, faster, and you prevent them from using it by taking it yourself.
