Anybody else play this yet?

It's supposed to be the best shooter out there for PS2

Not played it, but Gamespot gave it a 6.9, which means it probably isn't the best shooter on the PS2, Timesplitters 2 still is.

I actually havn't read the reviews yet.

All the pre-launch stuff looked really good though.

I thought it was fun. A good way to occupy my time until Halo 2 comes out

Has a game stoping bug

The AI is mornic.... extremely mornic, so it might sound nice but if you run past 50% of the baddies they go hippie and refuse to move or shoot

Even if you drop a gernade at their feet and run in front of them

I know it's got bugs.

I didn't know the game froze, but sometimes i'll have to restart a level because the level didn't end when it was supposed to for some reason (A shining example of this would be the level where you have to defend the ISA forces at the dock entrance against a Helghast assault. Somtimes the level just doesn't end.)
Also, another apparent bug is with the scoring system. One day after I rented the game, It said I had played for 54 hours and killed 11659 enemies. Probably won't buy it, unless I see it in a bargin bin

The Helghast soldiers suffer from serious lag. If you're quick enough of them, they don't react at all and are gunned down without a fight.

Furthermore, it's impossible for them to sneak up on you, since whenever they're in the vicinity, they let out a hilarious, "WAAAAAAAGH!" This leads me to believe that their suits are actually powered by shit, and so they require a constant supply of it to keep fighting you--easier said then done, judging by their vocal despair.

And the story is equally dumb. The Helghast attack the ISA's (or whatever) planet. The general needs a key to activate the defences to ward of the assualt. The problem? HE DOESN'T HAVE THE KEY. He has to have someone SEND IT TO HIM. Worse, he's not even anywhere near the space station where the key needs to be inserted. Wow, fucking genius. Just in case the enemy launches a surprise attack, they'll be well prepared to run in circles like cowards as their base disintigrates around them.

At one point, you're knocked out by an explosion and the Helghast invade your base. The dialouge during that time might as well have gone like this:

GENERAL: How many fingers am I holding up?
YOU: Thursday.
GENERAL: Go kick their ass!

All in all, a mediocre shooter.

Another point against the story was the dialague between Rico and Haka.

It was just so......Cliche.

Not to mention the whole "Surprise! General Adams is a mentally unbalanced traitor" thing.

One counterpoint though, They didn't need the two keys to activate the SD platforms outright. They needed the keys to override their security so they could reprogram them and get them operational. They were supposed to work, but didn't because General Adams sold Vecta out to the Helghast.

The impression I got was that the entire colony's defense was based around the SD platforms killing any potential threat before it could land. Stupid, yes, but not as stupid as your making it out to be

Don't you think that makes it stupider? If they planned on getting the Helghast before they landed, why would they have any sort of complicated system to get the defenses going? Remember, Vecta doesn't even have the key, and even if he did, he would still need to get it up to the space station.

After they do activate it, Adams blows up the ocean or something. I had to stop playing it after that, so I don't know what was really going on.

First of all.
Vecta is the name of the colony their fighting on. Voughten is the name of the other general.

The defenses already were activated. The platforms were working fine until Adams turned traitor and helped the Helghast shut the platforms down. The reason they don't have both keys on the platforms is so that somone else can't reprogram them if they manage to board them.

They expected the SD platforms to work fine, and they would have. If Adams had not gone traitor, the Helghast assault fleet would have been reduced to it's component particles.
The whole reason the Helghast assault even worked is because general adams was a fucking nut. Quite frankly I wonder about the ISA's psyc profilers. How the hell could they miss that?

Ahh, I see now. I suppose I might've skipped over the talking bits a wee bit too much.

What did Adams blow up right after he assumed control anyways?

Somthing called "The fortress."

I assume it's an ISA spaceport and command base

... And somewhere, in a distant land of milk and honey, Halo feels a slight breeze against the small of its back and wonders, "What was that?", unaware of the bullet that had just missed him by several meters.

Given some of the pre-launch stuff I saw about this game, and what they intended it to do, that bullet could have hit squarely in the head if Sony had pulled it off right.

The same could be said for EVERY game... "if they had pulled it off right".

Tis sad. It's getting to the point where console gamers mirror the PC market's 'release and patch' mentality...only you can't fucking PATCH them. That being, yaknow, the entire damn point of said console. Idiots.

'S a damn shame, the pre-release stuff and concept art looked damn good. But oh well. And hey, I don't own a PS2 anyway! :D

I really wanted this to be pulled off. It looked so promising, but evidently they rushed it and didn't go with what they planned. A sad waste.

So many games would be so much better if every last person who thinks a degree in marketting qualifies them to actually be employed was rounded up and send to quite literal reeducation camps. No, it doesn't matter if Halo 2 comes out first, because if you release a shitty game before Halo 2, it'll still be a shitty game.
