So I just bought this card, it's a saphire with an ATI radeon 9200 SE chipset. I installed it in place of my geforce 2 mx, and after I installed the driver and restarted, it seemed to work fine. But when I tried to increase the resolution, the computer rebooted. After it loaded again, I tried opening some windows and it rebooted. After that, 1 minute after showing my desktop, it kept rebooting.

I downloaded the latest drivers from ATI (instead of the ones in the CD) but even after I removed those, the damn thing keeps rebooting. So I removed the card and put the geforce back. Any idea what might be wrong?

Could be a variety of things but it seems more like a defective card. Very werid is it PCI or AGP? If its PCI did you try it different slots? Do you have a PCI Sound card? Do you have another computer to try it in?

Also if you don't mind asking why did you buy a SE?

Some people do not have an unlimited budget to spend on GPU's, when they don't plan on gaming.

Just out of curiosity, but how much can your power supply handle? (ie: What power load is it rated for? You can find out by looking on the sticker on the side of the power supply. Its labeled under "Total Power". If its not listed, just mention "Combined Power" and how much current your +12V rail can handle.) I had something similar happen to me when I upgraded from a GF3 Ti200 to a GF4 Ti4600. My problem was a case fan whoring too much current.

As for the SE, there's two reasons: 1) it's the only one available 2) I can afford it. duh

It's an AGP card, i've tried several things like lowering the "agp something" in the CMOS from 64 to 32 mb, using the driver utility to lower it to agp 1x without fast transfer, and all I managed was to squeeze a couple extra minutes before crash.

My case has a maximum output of 350 watts. Do you think it might be cooling? It's always running on yellow, like 50 ºC or so (CPU), but I don't know what I can do to lower it, the case is got two fans plus the cpu cooler, and even if I open it completely it only goes as low as 45º.

I've read there could be CMOS options fucking it up, but this is an intel board and there really aren't many options in the CMOS, other than "use agp/pc" or "agp aperture".

About the 12v rail, i dunno, would have to look when i get home in about an hour.

Uninstall the drivers and run it without them. Have you tried it in a different computer? Whats your cpu?

I'm going to assume cooling, the 9200SE most of the time comes with only a heatsink, and no fan.

Your settings won't change much if thats the deal, the passive heatsink can't do too much to dissapate heat from games.

I can suggest my current solution for my PC, if your case has small openings on the side of it, set up a fan and let it blow quietly while you play.

"AGP something" is the aperature, "fast transfer" is "Fast Writes".

Ok, it sounds like your power supply is inadequate. What's your complete specs?

As for your temperature, sounds like you have airflow issues as well.

I tried unplugging the case fans (with the case open), no luck.

Also, what do you mean inadequate? Cases here range from 200 watt to 400 watt for the most expensive...
