PS2 Trouble: "Broken-Record" Effect with Audio CDs

Well, the title pretty much describes it. It happens multiple times per disk, usually in the same spot on the disk, but sometimes completely at random. EVERY LAST ONE of my audio CDs has at least one spot that hangs up. I notice games sometimes have this trouble with their music as well, but never with data or code reading. I think it's a dirty laser head causing the trouble.

Help?

EDIT: Stupid title length cutoff!

Start by airing the drive out with canned air and using a lens cleaning kit to rule out simple dust. If the lens is clean, then either the laser is dying or misaligned, both being relatively common occurances before the SPCH-3900x series. Bluebottom discs (like, say, Contra: Shattered Soldier and Phantom Brave) will also tend to give RSOD copy protection errors and skip on in-game movies and music if this is the case. You can realign a misaligned laser, but it's rather tedious to do. I found a guide on the subject here. You can also check the rails of the drive mechanism for buildups of grease or other crud if it's skipping at specific points.

You might just want to consider replacing it if you're not comfortable trying to make the repair, or maybe calling Sony.
