My "shamelessly whoring World of Warcraft" thread.

So WoW will be in the stores in North America(and Korea, methinks) on Nov. 23rd. As I've been in the beta since the end of July, I thought I'd take a moment and share with you my screenshots that I've gathered from over the last nearly four months.
http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~jhenes/WoW/ is where they're all at. Rather than explain each and every one (it would take forever), I invite you to peruse them, and if some of these screenshots raise a question, I will do my best to explain them. If any other beta testers would like to chip in, they're more than welcome.
All of screenshots were taken whilst on my main character, a the Troll Shaman named Omgom.
And lest I forget,
the official WoW site.

I was planning on getting it, but since I've moved, money is tight and the internet sucks serious ass.

Were you on the beta server? I notice in the pvp pics at Southshore some folks in your goup weren't flagged for PvP.
I did plenty of killing over there myself, of course as a 60 mage

I am on the beta server, yes, and the only explanation I can offer is that they were latecomers who hadn't gotten flagged yet. As evidenced by the pictures, I was only 41 at the time and thus spent most of the evening getting curbstomped.

Whats the +20level PvP like? The quest treadmill is lame, but I've heard interesting things about mass PvP conquests and the like. You guys should know all about that, right?

PvP is, essentially "high end" content. Why? Because I'm a level 60 mage, and you'll be hard pressed to survive more than a few frost bolts (weakest) unless you are level 50+

On a PvE server, it's purely for bragging rights. To get flagged for PvP you have to attack the opposing faction's NPCs or PvP-flagged PCs, or heal/buff the NPCs or PvP-flagged PCs on your side. Then you're fair game for anyone who's up for attacking you.
Generally, PvP outside the upper level tier of server (45+ on the Beta server, ~20+ on the Open Beta ones) is pointless because you either won't be able to handle the NPCs, or someone will just call their ten level 60 guildmates to come and stomp you.
Once you get into the upper tier, it's fun as hell. And since level 60's have little else to do other than farm or try the new raid, there's almost always a raid in progress somewhere. Makes the endgame more interesting, but gives no tangible benefit.

Hurm. It's good that its seamless (and you're valid as soon as you help your side in battle), but the level treadmill thing isn't something that attracts me. Being killed because someone has less of a life than me hurts, it really does.
But eh, I'll wait till I try it for myself.

Ut's is in the beta, thanks to my effort. From what I've seen, the game looks quite fun.

EQ2 players are too busy being trapped in the Matrix to make one.

One thing which sorta ticks me off the is the enforced regional separation of players, tho. I've solved the problem by getting friends in Canada to help me pay, but its STILL irritating, to say the least.

Do you know any other way that they could do it besides quests? Or do you think that just grinding with no story line is better? Besides, compared to other mmorpg, it takes the fraction of the time to reach max level compared to other games.

Change your account from private to public. I keep getting a login screen.

Thanks for letting me know it was private. Didn't even know it was set to private since people was able to view images that I had set there before and I don't recall ever setting it too private

They are implementing a honor system (half-assed right now with you getting dishonor for defending yourself against a lower level player which one of them said is the way it's suppose to work... lets hope they fix it or take dishonor away completely) and they will give you the ability to sige towns with siege weapons and take zones/towns.

I sooo wanted to see a battleground in the beta, oh well. But yes, this is the plan, hopefullly it'll materialize before.. say, Player Housing, which I think will only be in Stormwind.

I played during the stress test and open beta on my roomie's account. It was better than the original EQ, but not something I personally would be willing to pay for. I only had problems with the graphics once, and that was when there was a forty-person raid moving as a swarm (especially since half were Hunters and had their pets with them). That got ridiculously bad.
{edit}: I should mention, though, that that was on a dial-up connection {/edit}

Must have been quite a download on dial-up

He could download it over the school's network, but the firewall blocks the port used for playing it
. It was still a long download, though, because there wasn't much excess bandwidth. I think it was ~8 hours.
