To start off im a Nintendo Fanboy but i did buy Halo 2 and play that sucker 24/7 and beat it in a little less than 3 days.

But am i correct when i say that Halo 2 was overhyped? in my opinion Halo 1 was alot better because it focused on the 1 player mode. I could care more about how long a potatoe grows in the ground than the multiplayer online of Halo 2. In my opinion Halo 2's one player mode sucked and i didnt feel involved in the story like the first one. By switching between the Arbitor and Master Chief it really took you out of the story.

Plus the whole factions of the Convenent in the story was just a device plot that Bungie did to make the Covenent weak just like what happend in the NJO of SW.

Today when i went to buy my Metroid Prime 2 i asked the guys at the local Gamestop how much they would give me for a regular Halo 2 they offerd 40 bux lets say im contemplating the idea to go back tommorow and get my money back from a game that was totally overhyped

What happend to the "Earth will be destroyed and never the same and that Master Chief will have to save the earth"? thing? only like 1 1/2 missions were actually on earth and through the movies we learn that the Covenent didnt even know what Earth was and that it was the humans homeworld.

Now only a diveded weakend Covenent force is going to earth now that they know what Earth is. WE also have to wait another 2-3 years for Halo 3 and the whole battle for Earth that was suppose to be in Halo2

Obviously Normal. Go Legendary, all the way.

Hey, I think that's better. Sure, they marketed it as a "have to save Earth!" kind of thing, but having the Covenant being a military force that makes mistakes like any other and has internal discord despite being a formidable enemy is better than some cliched horseshit about the Chief taking down the indestructible Covenant by himself.

It got shown to be the fanboy wetdream rumor that it was. Bungie never said anything about the plot. If they didn't hype it, how can it be overhyped?

One thing I wonder about is way back it was said that "at some point in the game, you will take the fight to the Covanent homeworld....." I could have sworn it was a bungie official who said that in an old EGM magazine. I guess they decided to shelve that for Halo 3 though.

I know you are kidding, but have you played Legendary? It's hard as fucking hell, like 10x harder than the first Halo's Legendary mode and it makes the co-op harder instead of easier. Heroic makes for a far more enjoyable experience, especially against Jackal snipers and Flood shotgunners.

An FPS without the 'better gun' mindset and no stupid healthpacks floating around...oh yeah sign me up.

I was impressed with the game before level 3, then when I met the Arbiter, I was hooked.

Sure it was overhyped...by fans. Much like Half Life 2. Both games in their respective circles would have to be the second coming to even equal a tenth of the hype.

And before some overzealous Half Life 2 fan screams foul. I played the game...getting collectors, but it is not as overwhelming awesome as some fans made it out in their minds before the game came out. I swear I could hear in a few fans that it would cure cancer, make the Bengals win the Superbowl, and have Britney Spears appear before them and become their love slave.

Just like Halo 2.

Both are fantastic games but the hype the fans gave is more then anything short of the Star Wars films.

No, Halo 2 big thing was to look like that...they never said that.

Thus if you fell for it, that's your fault. I expected the continuation of Halo 1.

Halo 3 will likely be the conclusion, but who knows.

GR is right. The fans and the magazines were the ones who overhyped it. I kept tabs on what it was, and the gameplay. I knew well in advance that the sole driving force to this game was going to be the multiplayer. I feel that having a solo campaign was just a bonus. The story in the first one was pretty good, and even though I haven't sat down and beat this one, I've definitely enjoyed the story so far. My main reason was multiplayer. I got semi hooked on Halo multiplayer just in time to pre order Halo 2, and now I'm stuck on it. I've even signed up on the free live membership and have played that the last three nights. So the overhype by fans is expected. All the ads that were out showed both gameplays. Single and Multi.

Half-Life 2, the game, isn't acutally what most of us are so pleased about (don't get me wrong, I loved the single player and all), but it's the mods that we want. It's really the source engine that we've wanted all this time.

On the subject of Halo 2, it's pretty cool, but for whatever reason my friend (who has the xbox mind you) almost doesn't care about it, he hasn't even finished the game! I could keep myself from not completeing HL2 as soon as humanly possible (damn tests!). So either my friend is strange, or it doesn't have the same "what happens next, I must know!" feel.

I can empathise with that: when I played Halo back in the day it was mysterious and engrossing. It was worth playing just to work out what was going on. Halo2 doesn't have that, although it does have the lacklustre intro Halo had.

I just hope halflife2 doesn't have ridiculous meat packing plants in everyones basement. Black Mesa: Research and smallgoods!

Still, three days on Normal? It took me about 4 hours on Heroic to get up to the Arbiter stage, and then I moved to normal because I hate those darn oodflay (pig-latined for spoilers). Then it took me about 6-8 hours more to beat it.

Those weren't meat packing plants, those were kitchen freezers. Or maybe you didn't notice the cafeterias scattered throughout Black Mesa... I thought it was a nice touch, in that it made the game feel like something you might actually see.

My biggest hate about the game is that it just didnt have what everyone said it would have and what would happen. Sure it could have been the fans that said alot of stuff but you still go into the game saying, this is it!
Halo 1 is much better.

I beat the game on normal first than i played in on legendary and all your marine friends die and its only you

IMO, Halo 2 is worth every red-fucking cent I paid for it for just one sequence which made me laugh so hard I almost pissed my pants. That was jumping onto the prophet's throne and beating the holy howling shit out of him! ROFL! I almost couldn't finish punching his face in I was laughing so hard. Yes, friends, that alone was worth 50 bucks to me. The Arbiter lvls. were a bonus. The Arbiter RULES!

For me...yeah I traded some stuff in that I didn't care for(Fable.......and before some rabid horndog goes what's not to love...not derailing the thread.)

As for the OP complaints...you are reflecting you just didn't like it, but not giving much beyond "I liked Halo 1 more!!!"

For me the scenes that got me the most were Sagres lines.

The Sarge is great...even better then number 1 since he has more then a few lines this time.

Halo 2 was just fine. I don't believe that it was over hyped by anyone but the fans. Just like Half-life 2 is over hyped, I believe one magazine said it was the greatest game ever. I am sure that there are some that say the same about Halo2. But over hyped does not mean bad game.
