I think MMOs have seriously impaired my ability to play video games. A traditional single-player game lacks the luster that it used to have, but I always wind up jaded and bitter following each foray in MMOs. Even though I have made many good friends through MMOs, the vast majority of the people who play them exist only to raise my blood pressure. The Live team invariably either gives in to the gripes and nerfs the hell out of everything or decides to implement new idea that will nerf the hell out of everything and/or palpably change gameplay. After months and months of SWG, CoH, FFXI, and the WoW beta I just haven't found happiness with an online game that is more than temporary.
Basically, I am adrift in the Great Video Game Sea and I have no idea where to go next. Does anybody have any suggestions about what to play or how to handle gaming post-MMO?

Well I was never big on RPGs to begin with, much less MMORPGs. I used to claim I'd never pay to play a game. Then I planned on Galaxies. It was fun at first, but quickly died, and CoH, I loved completely but since I'm not home much now and don't play I couldn't justify the cost anymore.
Basically all I've done is go back to where my gaming heart lies. I'm back rocking it out on the consoles. All the old games, I've been picking up Super Mario Bros to try and beat it as fast as I can, my Gameboy is getting used again, and over the past two weeks I started using my 2 free months of Live to play Halo 2 on. So there's lost of shit out there. Especially if your a console gamer. This is the year of sequels in movies and games, and some of the best titles ever are being dropped.

I'm about to get out of the whole MMO scene soon, played several of them, and enjoyed FFXI the most, but have been playing that for a year, and have pretty much maxed out that game. EQ2 seems pretty cool, but, I have some beefs with that game. Don't know what to go to next, I really like open-ended RPGs where you have a lot of freedoms (like Morrowind, one of my all time favorites). Oh, btw Goldbar, what server were/are you on for FFXI?Basically, I am adrift in the Great Video Game Sea and I have no idea where to go next. You do need more than one person to play those sorts of games though. This isn't usually an insurmountable problem, but when you have few friends and most of them are perpetually busy, it becomes irritating.Alyrium Denryle wrote:Start playing tabletop RPGs
[EDIT] I should add, especially when you have a wicked idea for a campaign and plot, and working your butt off trying to produce the game.
KOTOR is a great game to play, too bad I don't have my own personal Xbox. Maybe I should sell my old DVD player, get a few bucks, and scrimp and save for the Xbox. And I never understood the appeal of mass-multiplayer. A game should have both a single player and multiplayer component. If it must have one or the other, single player is better. IMO.

Sadly, my tabletop group is more into wargaming (Battletech) than roleplaying. Broyhill's active anti-RP, which doesn't help things along...meh. As for me? Never touched an MMO, never plan to. I've got my Telnet client for that

See...I DO play tabletop games...
Assuming that everyone is free.
Assuming that one of us had enough time to adequately prepare to DM for it.
And, most importantly, assuming that my idiot gaming friends aren't being idiots.
I need some type of video game for entertainment on demand. We're all just too busy to just sit down and play. I need something for late nights and early mornings.
Marksist: I was on Alexander for FFXI, but spent much more time on Scylla for SWG and Guardian for CoH than I spent with FFXI. The game and I just didn't click for some reason.
