New Forgotten Realms game interest thread

Post by Rogue 9 »

Well, Alyrium's been bothering me to try my hand at DMing you lot, and Tevar asked me if I'd DM a while ago, so I'm taking them up on it. Assuming sufficient interest, I'm going to start a 3.5e D&D game on the boards, set in the Forgotten Realms. I just got Shining South, so I'm going to start the campaign in that region of the continent (though the players are free to travel elsewhere, of course). What nation/adventure we use will be in part decided by the poll on this thread. Feel free to ask if you want to know more about the areas on the poll.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

So long as I get to paste something small I'm not bothered personally. Although the area isn't something I'm overly familiar with.

If my vote counts for anything, save the halflings.

Tall mouthers are nicely scary to low level people and adventurers travel. It''s a good starting place.

I've been running gnolls too recently as a DM to really have a hard on for killing them. Of course, considering the scary flind bastard I sicked on my players (don't worry, they wacked him) there is a certain poetic justic to being on the recieving end.

One of my NPCs wiped out more than 50% of the halfling race in one month (as a reaction to something to PCs did), so I've gotten my halfling hate through my system. One of my high school buddies once joked when setting up a new campaing. "There are no halflings. They were all wiped out by the Archmage [ my name]."

Seriously I can't make up my mind on what to vote, so if someone wants to pitch something at me, I'm open.

This was just before the party hit epic level. The halfling bow-death machine (that would Steve [not freakboy] to The Dude if you're watching) wanted a really kick ass bow and talked the unstoppable tank paladin (Chris) into assisting him. After cutting a dubious deal with the God of Warlocky and Trickery, they go into a part of the forest that the elves have avoided for millenia and god won't go.

So they sneak in (when they are good, they are really good), slay/avoid the guards traps in such a manner that they should be writing a how to book they are so damn good. They drop the uber lich, nick his artifact, and find the bow. They leave.

Notice anything missing?

Hint: they don't find his phylactery (it wasn't there, but that's another story). They don't sweat the small stuff.

A few days latter the uber lich is really pissed. He raises up half the Kaern Lands and starts hunting. What's in the direct line of attack? The halfling homelands, a protectorate of Homata (vaguely Roman, strongest human nation on the continent). People of the same race as the guy who humiliated him and stole his stuff. Instant six figure massacre. He crucified more than 10,000 alive. Swath of destruction continues.

No, that's what an undead horde is for. They don't get tired of nailing people to crosses.

Maybe I should clarify. The Kaern Lands is sparsely populated and gets its name for being full of alledgedly haunted burial mounds. It is the site of one of the earliest human civilizations on the continent.

Oh dear. I'd have to learn 3.5e. I don't know FR well enough to take a pick, but I'd be interested. Have to run something way, way off the wall :)

There are a lot of little differences form 3.0, but it is essentially the same game. Some of the exploits and balancing features are corrected, but unfortunately the erred on the side of nerfing things. Which is why my group plays a 3.0/3.5 hybrid.

I house rule a lot of things back to 3.0 as well, namely the rules on cover and a few of the other minor details. As for nerfing things, take a look at the 3.5 paladin as compared to the 3.0 one and tell me that's nerfed. :P

Got an inkling of a mage obsessed with flight, both of himself and of any objects he can get to leave the ground. Yes, I was indeed QUITE bored at work. Course that all depends on the atmosphere of the setting, I'm pretty much supaflexible.

Well, like I said, if you want a non-mage or a non-dedicated-mage, I can be flexible. Like...a ring of Tenser's Transformation. *ducks!* Sorry, sorry :)

By the way, does anyone have a linky to some reasonably up-to-date rules and such? I've got a decent grasp of 3e on a general level, but sadly Richmond's D&D group is...not one I'd really care to join, so my nuts-and-bolts knowledge comes from, well, Neverwinter.
