Was just gonna make a post about the DS (was almost no mention about the release, unless I missed a thread).

No, I don't have a DS yet, but I have played it multiplayer with several friends and strangers at GameStop.

It's an awesome system, and the PSP is definitely going down. I can't wait for the DSLinux project to be completed- then I shall install Linux and have a true gaming PDA :) The DS Software Download feature is great- you know, the one that lets you play the game thats in someone else's DS. That could be an easy way of testing Linux (or other people's games) out without actually installing anything or buying anything.

I'm sure you've seen the size of the game carts, right?

For those who haven't, we're talking postage stamp sized here.

SD-card style
Very sweet.

Also, Xlink for DS is being worked on already so even non-Internet capable games (like Mario 64 DS, or the Metroid Prime Hunters demo) can be played online. 8)

A Nintendo DarkStar, which, using an intuitive GUI system, randomly generates a press release denying that Nintendo is losing popularity to the, ahem, "Gaystation 2" and "XXXbox" and calls anyone who disagees "M$ and/or $ony whores"

Note: I cherish my GameCube, FYI.

It's actually not supposed to be a successor to the Gameboy. Instead, they've been calling it their "Third pillar", and have gone so far as to state that the Gameboy's successor will be a totally seperate console.

I tried out Mario and the Metroid demo on my friends DS last night.

PSP is really goint to have to be something special. This really does kick a fuckload of ass.

No, NOT GAMEBOY. The DS is not part of the GameBoy line. It's a third console. It's just Nintendo DS. And it's Developer System, not Double Screen.

I'm probaly going to get one around Christmas. The title I've been looking forward to is Super Mario 64 DS, although I'm wondering: How many other games for the DS are out there?

At the moment, there's:
Super Mario 64 DS
Feel the Magic (very weird game :? )
Asphault Urban GT (60 fps is nice, plus lots of well known cars)
The Urbz (3d port of the GBA game)
Madden 2005 (Football game)
Spider-Man 2 (2.5D, 60 fps, touchscreen swaps special moves. Looks fun.)

Mario 64 DS would probably have the longest gameplay, and the addition to the TONS of minigames (36 was it?), new levels, multiplayer, and multiple playable characters.

Oh, and several other games are scheduled to come out before the year ends (including Ridge Racer DS).

It's the games that are coming out that I'm excited about.

There's a listing.

Sonic DS, Zelda DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, Viewtiful Joe, Star Wars: ROTS, and the new Super Mario Bros. game.

I've been meaning to ask. How is Mario 64? Can it be controlled well, lacking the joystick from the N64? It was hard enough with that, it doesn't seem possible with a D-pad and seems difficult with a touch screen, but hey, I haven't tried it so I wouldn't know. Was it easy to control?

Metroid was awesome, though. The most control I've ever had, bar (maybe) keyboard and mouse . Seriously, the touchscreen control felt so natural, I was CRUSHING people. It felt just the same as using a mouse, except that I liked the D-pad better than WASD.

Oh, there I go again, three posts in a row :P

That thing is ugly as hell. It looks like they taped together two of those old Donkey Kong games.

looks like a very cool concept for a handheld.

sadly this is from nintendo and nintendo tends to have lots of shitty game titles like mario in bright annoying colors aimed at children under six and only very view cool titles aimed at adults (metroid prime for example).

Do you think a 6 year old could have properly finished Mario 64?

i was exaggerating but it doesn´t change my point, esspecially because i´m talking about the graphic style not the difficulty.

What does that have to do with how fun the game actually is?

graphic style plays a huge part in how fun games are.
certain graphic styles create certain atmospheres. the mario atmosphere is plain annoying to me. same with zelda.
and just like in movies and books the atmosphere is essetial for reading, viewing or playing pleassure.

just like in cartoons for example. there are differences between pokemon and ghost in the shell not only quality wise but also style wise which lead many people to prefer one over the other. kids tend to prefer stuff like pokemon while adults tend to prefer stuff like ghost in the shell.

i´m not saying that ALL adults would prefer this type of graphic style of course.

Oh great, the idiotic "Nintendo is for kids!" thing. Here we go again.

Nintendo has recently stated that there seems to be a bias that Nintendo is for kids, and that with the DS they intend to fight that reputation and are targetting teens to adults, though there will be kids games.

There will likely be a ton of shooters- there will be a GoldenEye game coming out, for example. There are at least three racer games coming out, and a Zelda game under way. And a Metroid Prime game. Kids? Rofl. There's plenty of other games, as well.

I don't understand why people put down Nintendo for targetting ALL AGES. These days, there are very few games that kids can buy- all the good ones are for GameCube. So...WHY does that make ALL GameCube games kiddie games? GameCube is my favorite system due to the GAMES on it- Super Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Zelda: The Wind Waker, Spider-Man 2, etc, etc are all great games.

Next person I hear saying Nintendo is for little kids is gonna get it :P There are a ton of 'for adults' games for the DS.

Heck, there's even gonna be Star Wars: ROTS for DS!

Bad picture. Go try one in real life. It's sweet.
Every GameStop has two, so you can play multi.

Man, I've played the DS. It's pretty sweet, but unfortunately it was only a demo unit so I couldn't really get a good grip on it.

I've always liked Nintendo...they make up for lack of quantity with solid, quality franchise titles.

Have to agree with ya.
