Yes. You get to play Ignatius Cheese, and upon boarding merchant vessels, challenge their captains to Insult Arm-Wrestling.

Agreed it kicks ass!
I am fighting the english I want a ship of the line after me, I really want one of those!
The only thing I don't like is the dancing part.
And also if I buy the game the damn copyprotection should not care about what other applications I run.
As it is now I am running it from a hacked Pirates!.exe so it don't whine about the alcohol 120% software

Absolutely. That was a Microprose project -- and Firaxis is the spiritual successor to Microprose.

Seems to have a few bugs though... if a ship escapes from my ship it says I've "captured" the ship. Also, I just destroyed a French war fleet, and the French responded by promoting me!

Man, I remember playing that game back in the day, taking out Spanish War Galleons with a sloop and trying to marry the hottest Mayor's daughter.

Got the dancing shoes? After I got them, I have yet to mess up a single dance. Or maybe it's just that I've got enough practice, LOL.

Oh hell yes, the memories. Storming Cartagena with little pixel men... taking a larger ship in a boarding action despite being outnumbered ten to one just because I happen to be a good duelist, it was all good. My second favorite NES game after Ghenghis Khan, it was.
Arrrrr...

You start off as this 18-year old Captain of a Sloop. Basically, you ply the Carribean (in varying time periods) and be a pirate. Or a privateer, or a merchantmen, but being a pirate is the most fun. It's all real time, you control your ship with the cursor keys, there's dynamic wind, a dynamic world (immigrants, treasure ships, raiders, smugglers), tons of different ships, and four nations you can help and/or fuck over as you please- Spain, England, France and Holland. Naval battles are handled much the same way as navigation is, except full/reefed sail assumes more importance and you play at dodging his cannon shot while broadsiding him with either round, grape, or chain-shot. You can either sink him outright (why?), damage him enough so he surrenders, or board him, in which case the battle is decided both by how many men you have, but mainly by whether you defeat the enemy Captain in a duel. All the ports have merchansts, shipwrights (for upgrading/repairing your ship/fleet), taverns (recruit new pirates, buy items off shady characters, chat up bar maids, etc) and the governor's residence, who promotes you if you're doing good shit for his nation and lets you date his daughter- the success of those dates being determined by how good you are at dancing. A successful date will result in cool items/information. Dates are harder depending on how beautiful the daughter in question is. You can also attack settlements and plunder them with your crew in land battles.
And so on and so forth. Now, back to playing!

Is this a sequel of Seadogs? Sounds like it has the same sort of gameplay anyway
(god I loved that game)

No. It's a remake of the original Pirates, and Pirates Gold. Old classics from the 1990s.

No, but I think Pirates of the Caribbean is a sequel to Sea Dogs.

FUCK. What is it with all the good games coming out now? I haven't seen this many good PC games come around in such a small time frame. First RomeTW and Halflife 2 (Eagerly waiting for my shipment to arrive) and now I think I may add this game to my after Christmas shopping list. Fuck all of you for posting such great reviews that have me playing games again after months of not touching the stuff.
