Anyone know of any good linux games? My PC is a 1.7ghz athlon with a radeon 9100SE, 512 ram and has both winblows xp and mandrake 10.0 OE installed on it. I'm trying to kick the habit of keep using winblows, but I need some games to replace my addiction to winblows games with.

Please no "this game works with cedega(winex). I already have that and am currently testing my games (many of which don't work) on it.

Quake II and III both have Linux ports.

As for getting good gaming under Linux, ATI's Linux drivers suck so far IIRC. Additionally, their Catalyst drivers only support XFree 4.3 (X11R6.6), while Mandrake 10 uses X.org (X11R6.7). NVidia has good cards for Linux, but you have to install their binary drivers (the open drivers don't provide good hardware acceleration).

I don't know how your framerates may be working, but if you're getting decent OpenGL framerates I'd say leave your drivers alone.

Dominions II: The Ascension Wars, strategy games don't get any better than that.

Unreal Tournament 2004. There is also a pretty cool Star Wars mod for that called UT2004 Troopers: Dawn of Destiny.

Both iD software and Epic games have Linux ports of their games available.

Serious Sam and Serious Sam: The Second Encounter have Linux ports. I can't find the installer for the first game (I can only find an update) but I've played through the entire Second Encounter on Linux with only a few minor glitches.

Many older games have had their source code released and have been ported to Linux. Examples include FreeSpace 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Descent 2, Homeworld, Aliens vs. Predator, etc.

There are also a number of commercial games, including MOH:AA, Neverwinter Nights, Shogo, SimCity3000, SOF, etc. that have been ported and can be purchased at TuxGames

Here are a few good Linux gaming sites:
