Spike TV Video Game Awards

Post by Butterbean569 »

Anyone gonna watch this tonight? Starts at 9 Eastern I believe...

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted awesome Video Game coverage on TV, but haven't gotten it. This looks pretty promising though, since Spike is a somewhat big Cable station and it looks like they're putting a lot of money into it (considering some of the stars that are going to be there). Let's hope that it's cool.......

Bet you that Halo 2 wins game of the year. Halo 2 when stacked up against other shooters (ie if it was ported to PC) is nothing spectacular, just another FPS. But because consoles sell better and Halo is about the only good FPS on a console, its going to win. Gah!

At least they have some separate categories. Half Life 2 and Doom 3 can compete on the PC sections.

There is one thing about the nominations that pissed me off. Halo 2 made the nomination for best graphics and Far Cry didn’t. Fucking hell. Halo 2 is based on a 800 Mhz system and its graphics are dated. Far Cry damned well deserves to make the graphics competition and Halo 2 shouldn’t even have made the list. Whats worse is Far Cry only got ONE nomination, it was nominated for best PC Action. Didn’t even make the PC Game list or the technology list.

However, there is a silver lining. Half Life 2 got more nominations (last time I counted) then any other game. It even got nominated in the game technology category (Source engine) when the other contestants were hardware.

I think this years competition are going to come down to Halo 2, Half Life 2, and Doom 3. Though MGS3 and GTA:SA ought to have a nice showing as well.

Do they have a MMORPG catergory? I'm interested in seeing who wins that...although they might not do that since the two major MMORPG's came out just in the last month or so

Halo 2 won best FPS game of the year. Why am I not surprised?

Damn Xbox fanboys....*grumble grumble* O well lol

So far the show is alright...not great, but it is an awards show afterall lol The beginning was pretty tight, with so many big name rappers coming out. The thing is....I doubt that a lot of Video Game lovers are fans of rap, so maybe that wasn't such a good thing lol

I think it's pretty funny seeing these nerdy software developers get up there and accept the awards....this show is like nerds meets gangstas

Here is what amuses me about Halobox fanwhores.

They keep going on and on about how Halo is such a fantastic game. Then Halo came out on the PC and a LOT of them called it a crap game. News flash. Halo on the PC is THE SAME FUCKING GAME as the X-Box version. The reason Halo on the PC wasn’t treated like the second coming is because Halo now had to compete against other FPS games. And we all know the PC is better suited for FPS games.

It’s the same fucking thing for Halo 2. Had Halo 2 been a PC release rather then console release, I know Half-Life 2 would have rated better.

Dammit....this was a pretty crappy show. It's a perfect example of why gangsta rap and nerdy video gamers never need to be combined. Argh...will there never be a cool Video Game show on TV? Is that an oxymoron? lol

And yes, Halo (and Halo 2) really aren't much compared to PC FPS games. I'll admit that Halo and Halo 2 are very fun. Not much compares to getting a dozen friends together in the same place and killing each other. Still, when it comes to gameplay and graphics.....

O well this debate has been through the ropes in other threads so I'll drop it at that

I don't disagree. Halo and Halo 2 are great games to play. I classify them as good party games. Load up some maps, or go at it coop and have a blast. But when it comes to more serious multi player, nothing beat the internet, a keyboard, a mouse, and a headset.

Betcha that every award winner will have 'mature' themes of some sort  Seems thats how Spike rates their video games. The bloodier, the higher rating.

Yep Zelda was not even mentioned but then Donkey Konga nearly won and its pretty hard to get violent in that game

Although I didn't watch this show, it is upsetting that Far Cry wasn't nominated for more than one award. All around I enjoyed that game the most from this year, and I played most of the great games to come out this year (Half-Life 2 being the only big game I haven't gotten my hands on yet).

Well Halo 2 only won two areas. Best FPS action of the year (all because of the fanwhore numbers) and best design. I contest the best FPS title, but best design, that I can live with.

GTA:SA won game of the year, best male voice acting (Samuel L. Jackson), and best music. They also won best action game of the year.

Half Life 2 won best graphics and best PC game of the year.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay won best game based on a movie series.

Far Cry was only nominated in the best FPS action and obviously both Far Cry and Half-Life 2 lost to Halo 2.

Ok, two of the nomination sets piss me off. Halo 2 made the best graphics nomination and Far Cry didn’t. Also, PC Gamer did NOT make the best gaming publication nomination. WTF? PC Gamer only happens to be THE magazine when it comes to PC games.

Heh. I love how immersive PC games can be, but Halo 2 just has something about it that nothing else seems able to capture. Especially in multiplayer.

The WebSense on my computer won't let me into SpikeTv. That's why I asked.

You need to play some WaW BF 1942, 28 people per side everyone on TS reliving some bad old days of WWII, never seen Online gaming done better

I'm a Desert Combat fan myself, but I know what you mean. It's tough on the internet connection, but if you can find a good server that holds 64 people on it with a lot of people on TS, you are in heaven. Even better if you're in a clan and actually talk tactics....ahhh how I love BF. I can't wait for BF2 :)
